Day Continues To Shine In European Superstock

American rider Joshua Day achieved his best result of the season in the European Superstock 600 class at last weekend’s Brno World Superbike round.

Day had been fastest in first qualifying on the Revolution Racedays Kawasaki and was set for pole in the final minutes of final qualifying before a slower rider blocked him in the last turn.

At the race start Day was unable to capitalise on his second position on the grid and was only fifth into turn one, allowing pole setter Dino Lombardi to pull away from the pack and establish a two second gap. Determined to catch him, Day used his skill on the brakes to fight his way to second position and then set out to chase the Martini Corse rider down – towing Gauthier Duwelz and local hero Thomas Krajci with him. What had seemed an unassailable lead for Lombardi at the halfway point then evaporated as Day put in faster and faster times until by the final lap he had moved up to the rear wheel of the Italian’s Yamaha.

Sadly there was to be no Hollywood ending for Day as despite posting the fastest lap of the race in the final minutes, he was just not close enough to attempt a pass – crossing the line in second place and 0.2 sec behind the Italian rider. Behind them Krajci put a hard pass in to beat Duwelz to the final podium place, much to the delight of his supporters in the crowd.

With both championship leaders failing to finish the race an increasingly competitive Day now lies equal fourth with Ten Kate Junior rider Van der Mark, and only 30 points from the lead.

Brno also saw BSB 125 and European Junior Cup contender Matt Davies take part in his first 600cc race for the Racedays team. The young Australian had a strong showing as he got to grips with the bigger, much more powerful machine; finishing in 19th position and just behind 2010 AMA Supersport champion Austin DeHaven.

More, from a press release issued by Josh Galster’s publicist:

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course was the location for the AMA Pro Road Racing Daytona Sportbike races this last weekend. Josh Galster was aboard his Grandprix Motorsports-backed, EDR-built Yamaha R6 where he finished 11th and 19th following an up-and-down weekend.

Friday morning greeted the riders with a wet track after a night of rain which washed the track clean and eliminated any grip. in the first Daytona Sportbike practice the track was very slick and all the riders were sliding both the front and rear, fighting for traction. three-quarters of the way through the 50-minute practice the times started to drop and rubber was finally being laid down on the track. Galster registered a 1:34.808 but still had work to do to get the bike to hold a line on the exit of the corners. after deliberating with Barry Wressel from KFG Racing, Josh and Sean made the necessary changes to the suspension prior to qualifying. in the qualifying session the bike handled much better and Galster was able to drop more time, ending the session 17th with a 1:33.332.

Saturday morning’s practice/final qualifying session Josh needed to better his time to get further up the grid, so they made some tire compound changes, with different gearing to get some extra grip and drive out of the corners. unfortunately, neither of the changes worked out and Galster was not able to better his time at all and had to settle for an 18th position grid placement for the races. after the session was over, Sean and Josh went back to the prior settings and would start the race with something that they knew would work pretty well.

Race 1 Galster got an ok start and trailed a pack of three bikes for most of the race after getting by a few riders in the opening laps. with another rider coming up on Galster they both made their way through the pack of riders until eventually Galster couldn’t quite hold the pace with the tires slightly falling off and was passed but stayed stationed to finish 11th and bettering his times by a second with a 1:32.091.

“Yeah, that was a fun race for sure. I tried to manage my tires with this heat and how abrasive the track is as best as I could, but towards the end of the race when I was pushing to stay with the guys and chase a few riders down, the traction got interesting and I couldn’t quite keep with those guys,” Galster said at the end of the race.

Race 2 was quite different from race 1 for Josh, starting with a red flag on the opening lap which added a couple more laps to the tires and fuel load. after adding a splash of fuel to the bike, the riders were back out on their warm-up lap again where Josh noticed his clutch not performing at it’s optimum. Just before gridding up for the restart he was trying to adjust his clutch while rolling up to the starting grid. He wasn’t able to get it properly adjusted so had to deal with what he had. needless to say, Galster did not get the best of starts and had to fight his way through quite a bit of traffic in the first couple laps. by that time the leading groups had pulled away and all Josh could do was put his head down and chase. and that is what he did. Galster threw down some consistent high 1:31’s, with a best lap at 1:31.337, just under 2 seconds off the leaders’ times. shortly after halfway, Galster saw his fuel light come on and he knew with 9 laps to go he would be hard pressed to make it to the end. he backed the pace down dramatically to conserve fuel, but on the second to last lap the bike could go no further and Galster had to retire from the race. Getting 19 laps completed he was still able to come away with a 19th-place finish.

The next stop for Josh Galster will be at the Red Bull USGP, AMA Pro race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca July 22-24th. Be sure to tune in on SPEED TV for that.

All in all it was a great weekend and Josh Galster thanks all his friends and family that made it out to the track to watch and support along with the Klepper family, Sean Bratt, Barry Wressel, Keith Code, and his sponsors Grandprix Motorsports, EDR Performance, California Superbike School, Dunlop, Bazzaz Performance, Arai, LeoVince, KFG Racing, gpguns.com, Scorpion leathers, Attack Performance, EBC, GPR, and Lockhart Phillips.

A 4th place finish for Nadine in the California Championship

All the best riders were out in Sonoma for the 2nd run of the California State Championship, ready to strap up and strut their stuff. Amongst them, International speaker and best selling author, Nadine Lajoie was poised to leave her mark.

On the intimidating track of Infineon Raceway, Nadine pitted her skills against the best in California for a 4th place finish in the Formula 40 Middleweight series. With it being only her second time racing on the track, Nadine beat her personal best lap time by one second from last year.

“I didn’t feel so comfortable and confident and needed more to win”, stated Nadine afterwards.

Nadine was able to string together two more top ten performances within the weekend. She grabbed 6th place in the Formula Femme race, and 8th place in the 750 Superbike race. She finished up her day with an 11th place finish in the 600 Superbike series.

“Overall I’m pleased with my races. It felt really great to be out there racing again and being a part of the competition”, remarked Nadine about the weekend.

Nadine is preparing to hit the road again, but this time it’s not for a spot on the podium. She is set to begin a tour across the west coast promoting her new book Win The Race Of Life With Balance and Passion At 180mph. She’ll be making stops in the following cities San Diego, Las Vegas, Vancouver and finally in Maui Hawaii. To keep following Nadine and catch her next race, look for her in September to be racing in Fontana CA the 10th-11th and the 17th-18th in Willow Springs CA. Fastline Cycles of Fremont, California, Wrenches Two Racers to the AFM’s Top Steps at Infineon Raceway

Two Fastline Cycles supported racers win the AFM’s Formula Pacific and Formula AFemme

BayAreaRidersForum.com/Fastline Cycles racer Chris Siglin and his Fastline Cycles crew overcame an eventful weekend to celebrate a coveted win in Formula Pacific, the American Federation of Motorcyclists’ premier racing class.

Things weren’t looking great Saturday afternoon, when Siglin highsided his Fastline Cycles-built BMW S1000RR in practice coming out of Turn 7, severely bruising his right shoulder and leaving the bike looking “REALLY REALLY bad,” according to Kaelee Bettencourt-Torres, the 11 year old daughter of Fastline Cycles crew chief Alex Torres.

But Torres, with over 20 years of experience working in the racing industry, suspension man Ray Perez and Siglin all worked diligently to fix the broken bits and whip the bimmer back into winning shape. At best, the team was hoping for a top five finish in Formula Pacific, but from the first few turns of the race it was clear that Siglin and his Fastline Cycles crew were in the running for a win.

“What a roller coaster of emotions this weekend,” said Siglin. “That highside on Saturday shook me up pretty good and left me hurting. After my first race on Sunday I thought I might be in trouble for the longer premier race. Once the race started I just got in the zone and started to feel that winning was very possible our bike was fast!”

Siglin would also like to thank his sponsors: BayAreaRidersForum.com, Fastline Cycles, CT Racing/Pirelli Tires, Tri-Valley Moto, Kyle Racing, Helimot Leathers, CZ Chains, Rock Oil, MotoWheels, Z2 trackdays, GO Pro, MotoGloss, Ace Custom Graphics, KH Coaching, and all my great friends and family.

Also celebrating a win this weekend was Christie Cooley, on her 2009 Yamaha R6 prepped and built by Fastline Cycles. On Saturday, Cooley won Formula AFemme, the country’s largest all female motorcycle road racing series. 14 women made the grid, including some visiting riders from WERA and WSMC, who were at Infineon contesting the California State Championship’s Formula Femme. The 14 women tied the previous record for the biggest women’s roadrace in America, which was also an AFM race in September 2009. Cooley, who worked with longtime AFM racer Joy Higa and the AFM to create the AFemme class in early 2009, “hopes that next year it’ll be even bigger.”

Nursing a serious hip laceration suffered June 12 during a cycling race, Cooley didn’t even think Round 5 with the AFM would be possible. “That was my first ambulance ride”¦and hopefully my last. I’m just so happy I was able to make the grid and save my points leads in AFemme and CSC. Without Alex’s motor work and bike prep I wouldn’t even be here right now.”

Cooley would like to thank Alex of Fastline Cycles, along with Pirelli Tires, CT Racing, Leo Vince, ACT Racing, G&B Cycle Pro, Mission City Signs, and her rockin’ pit crew.

K-Tech Suspension is pleased to announce further success for riders equipped with K-Tech fork cartridges, piston kits, and rear shocks. In AMA Supersport, Cameron Beaubier rode his 20DDS Fork Cartridge equipped Yamaha YZF R6 to a sixth place finish in race one, and improved significantly with a strong third place podium finish in race two at Mid OH. In the XR1200 class, Michael Beck rode his Vance & Hines Harley Davidson XR1200 to finish a strong second place on the podium – his first podium of the season on the big v-twin.

To the north, our friends in the Parts Canada Canadian Superbike Championship also collected podiums and victories. Jordan Szoke took his 2011 Kawasaki ZX 10R Ninja to pole position in qualifying, and rode hard to finish second on the podium during the race at Autodrome St-Eustache, just 1.39″ from victory. In the Harley Davidson XR1200 class, veteran Steve Crevier dominated practice and qualifying with a pole position, and carried that speed to win the race on Sunday. Crevier has a 21 point lead going to the next round of the championship following this great result.

In World Supersport, Step Honda’s Gino Rea took his first ever victory riding his K-Tech equipped CBR 600RR at Brno in the Czech Republic over the weekend. Carrying momentum from the previous round at Road America Autolite RIM Racing’s Mike Morgan was looking forward to round 6 at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. Mike did not disappoint with a solid finish in the first AMA Pro Racing Daytona Sportbike class race on Saturday. But Sunday’s race was short lived.

Mike Morgan: “I really need to get some better qualifying positions. It makes it really hard to get up to the guys I’m racing with and on Sunday it bit me. In race 1 I got a terrible start and had to make my way through a few riders to get into a comfortable rhythm. On the first lap I was able to get by several riders and was in the top 20 right away. The bike was handling great and the changes we made before the race worked. I was able to hang with some faster riders and we made a break from the rest of the pack. This also allowed the group to catch some other riders that were out front running by themselves. As the laps wound down I was running with another rider and waiting to make my move for 15th. He made a mistake and I was able to easily make the pass. But on the last lap a slower rider hindered my braking off the back straight and the rider I just passed made an aggressive move up the inside on both of us and retook 15th. I was not able to retake the position before the finish and had to settle for 16th. Race 2 was very short after being taken out in turn 1. I had a great start and was able to get by a few people when all of a sudden I was sliding on the ground. The other rider was injured and I checked on him until the ambulance arrived. The team worked really hard to make the repairs needed to restart the race but we ran out of time. So I have to thank them for all the hard work this weekend! And my great gear from Nexx helmets, TCX boots, Held gloves, and Pilot leathers kept me safe in both crashes, crashed in Sunday morning practice, and I walked away with no harm.

A WEEKEND OF UPS AND DOWNS FOR AMA SUPERSPORT EAST RIDER RYAN KERR AT MID OHIO COURSE

By Kerr Racing

Johnstown, Ohio (July 14, 2011) Ryan Kerr and the Ryan Kerr Racing Team rolled into the Mid Ohio Course with high hopes of leading the pack and increasing their points in the Supersport East Coast Series.

Kerr explains, “I had two main goals this weekend, one was to make improvements in my qualifying position and second to end the weekend as a top 5 position holder in the chase for the championship. At the conclusion of qualifying, Kerr had met his first goal for the weekend and positioned himself with a 6th place starting position. “I was thrilled with my times during the qualifying sessions and anxious to start in the second row at my hometown track.”

Saturday was a challenging race and Kerr stuck with the leaders. However, as the laps continued, Kerr began to lose ground and finished the day in 9th position. “The track became slick and I’m not sure we made the best tire choice for the conditions but a top ten finish still provides me with forward progress in the points series.”

Kerr was hopeful that Sunday would be a better day. Off the grid, Kerr was slammed from behind but maintained control. He began to work his way through the pack when an engine failure finished his day at lap 3. A disappointed Kerr says, “It was a heartbreaking way to finish the day at my hometown track with many fans in attendance. But I want to assure my fans that the Ryan Kerr Racing Team has begun the engine repair process and will be a top competitor at the next race.

Finally, Ryan Kerr and the Ryan Kerr Racing Team want to give a special thanks to family for all of their efforts on making this a special event and to his many fans for coming out and supporting him.

VESRAH SUZUKI CLOSER TO THE FRONT IN THE 2ND RACES AT THE MID OHIO SUPERCYCLE WEEKEND PRESENTED BY DUNLOP.

Vesrah Suzuki’s Cory West moved up 1 position finishing 6th in the AMA Pro Racing Daytona Sportbike Race 2 at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH. Taylor Knapp brought his Suzuki GSX-R 600 home in 9th. Cory drops to 5th place in the 2011 Daytona Sportbike championship by 1 point and Taylor remains in 8th place.

Corey Alexander also advanced 1 position over yesterday finishing in 4th position in the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race 2. As this was not a West Coast Supersport round, Corey remains in 3rd place in his championship heading to the next West Coast points round at Laguna Seca.

Mark Junge Team Owner Vesrah Suzuki

“We picked up positions today over yesterday but what is more significant is that we were much closer to the front groups. Both Cory and Corey cut the gap to the leaders by 75% which tells me that we are getting the set-up required for Mid-Ohio figured out.”

Cory West Vesrah Suzuki #57

“I got a much better start in today’s race and actually got away with the leaders. We got my bike working a lot better and my pace was pretty close to the leaders. I held onto the group through the first half of the race and started to get close enough to make a move and then I got bumped by a rider behind me. It kind of threw my rhythm off and that’s pretty much where I lost touch. I finished the race in 6th and was much closer to the lead pack today so I’m content. Mid-Ohio has been very tough for us this year and last year, but I think we finally found a good set-up for next year. I want to thank my crew chief, Tony Pogue, and my mechanic, Sean Goff, for all of their hard work this weekend and the rest of the Vesrah Suzuki crew for toughing it out and finding a good balance for my Suzuki GSX-R 600.”

Taylor Knapp Vesrah Suzuki #44

“I got off the line pretty good for the restart of race 2 and was close to the front but I could feel that something just wasn’t right with the bike set-up. We gambled pretty big going into the race and it just didn’t work the way we hoped for today. I feel bad because my crew put so much time and effort into making the bike better and I have to give them a huge thanks for working so hard. I am confident that they will put their heads together and come up with something great for Laguna Seca.”

Corey Alexander Vesrah Suzuki #5

“Today went better than yesterday for sure. Though we were only a position closer to the front overall we were closer to the front group, which was a good feeling. I had the opportunity to get on the podium but I made a few mistakes. My mechanics Barry and Tim set up my Vesrah Suzuki GSX-R 600 better than I could ask for. I look forward to Laguna and continuing my chase for a podium finish. Thanks to everyone supporting me and the team!”

More, from a press release issued by Ridersdiscount.com:

Despite putting the bike on the front row in qualifying, Lady Luck just wasn’t with Jake Holden Racing and Team RidersDiscount.com at Mid-Ohio. The hot weather was especially unforgiving with many of the top qualifiers putting in times that were slower than their efforts last year. In Saturday’s race, Jake realized quickly that his tire choice was not cut out for the track’s conditions and, rather than risk further injury to his still-healing hand, he opted to pull off having completed only five laps. After taking in all the information they could after Sunday morning warm-up, the team was ready for Sunday’s race. But again, it wasn’t to be and the Ducati 848 EVO’s transmission stuck itself in fourth gear on the second lap, forcing Jake to yet again retire.

Despite coming away from Mid-Ohio (one of Jake’s favorite tracks) with two DNFs, there is good news in all of this. First, Jake proved to himself that his hand is ready for racing after putting in consistently fast laps in practice. And second, Jake is now in Western Michigan for a visit to the Team RidersDiscount.com headquarters. There, the team will test for Jake’s upcoming return to the American Superbike class aboard one of the RidersDiscount.com superbikes!

Jake Holden “I really wanted to get back out this past weekend and put my Team RidersDiscount.com Jake Holden Racing Ducati 848 EVO back on the box but unfortunately things happened in both races and I was unable to do so. I went well in both qualifying and practice sessions and knew my fitness was back where it needed to be. Things happen in racing that can’t be controlled. I am even more fired up for Laguna where I will be racing in both Daytona SportBike and making my return to the American SuperBike class. Laguna has always been good to me and I am confident I can make my team and the RidersDiscount.com family proud of me! ‘Rock-n-Roll!'”

Brian Gibson, owner RidersDiscount.com “It was a busy weekend for Team RidersDiscount.com! We had a lot of success with WERA at the Grattan Double-Header weekend in Michigan, but Jake’s premier in Team RidersDiscount.com colors didn’t exactly go as we had hoped for. The good news is that Jake will be with us testing our bikes for his return to the American Superbike class at Laguna Seca. All of us are really excited to see one of our in-house prepared bikes back on the AMA grid in California!”

Jake Holden Racing and Team RidersDiscount.com are now focusing all their efforts on the next event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. Not only will Jake be riding his Ducati 848 EVO, he’ll also make his return to the AMA Pro National Guard Superbike class aboard a RidersDiscount.com-prepared superbike!
