AMA Pro Racing’s tire test is on hold Saturday morning at Daytona International Speedway due to early morning rains that have dampened the racetrack completely. In the recent past AMA Pro Racing has not road raced in the rain at Daytona, but will the new AMA Pro Racing race in the rain at “The World Center of Racing?” “Our intention was to hopefully run Moto-GT in the rain,” AMA Pro Racing Director of Competition Colin Fraser told Roadracingworld.com Saturday morning. “The other classes are less of a priority.” Fraser went on to say Moto-GT racing in the rain at Daytona was not clear because there is some confusion between AMA Pro Racing and the Official Tire supplier Dunlop. “We’re trying to work that out right now,” said Fraser. The Weather Channel’s forecast for Daytona Beach, Florida calls for a significant chance for rain through mid-day before clearing in the afternoon. Update: Saturday morning’s session for the Daytona SportBike class has been canceled due to rain, according to AMA Pro Racing officials. It has not rained at the track for hours, but rain is threatening the facility and forcing track staff to hold off any attempts to dry the racing surface. AMA Pro Racing officials are hoping to get the American Superbike class on track as scheduled at 1:00 p.m. local time. Daytona SportBikes will then return to the track Saturday evening under the lights. The test continues on Sunday but no night time testing is currently scheduled on Sunday.
