Under perfect weather conditions and partly sunny skies, Pirate Motorsport’s Lloyd Magruder was able to bring home a first, second and third place finish, as well as a first and 2 third class championships at the season ending Streets of Willow Race Series. Lloyd ran a near flawless race in 750 Superbike to take the victory on a still stock Triumph Daytona 675, producing lap times consistently in the mid 1:19’s. Ricky Herd, on his Kawasaki 636, was in the lead on the last lap, but had a major tank slapper going through T6, which allowed Lloyd to get by and take the win. This duel would continue later in the day in 750 Modified Production, with Lloyd dropping his lap times into the 1:18’s, but was unable to take over the lead from Herd, settling for second in that race. “The 675 really came through today, giving us a 1st and 2nd place finish. While we were able to get a new V4 GPR steering damper in time for this weekend, thanks to Loren Black at GPR, the rest of the bike is still bone stock. We were able to get to within 1.5 seconds of Jeff Tigert’s lap record here, so the bike really shows promise and I love riding it. Triumph has really built an amazing bike,” commented Lloyd. “Once we get some suspension, an exhaust under us and maybe a bit of engine tuning it’ll be interesting to see what the bike is really capable of doing.” Pirate Motorsports ended the season with a class championship in Formula II, 3rd in class in 600 Modified Production and 3rd in class in 750 Modified Production.
