Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki’s Chris Ulrich took the Sports Editor of a local daily newspaper and the winner of radio contest for eye-opening rides on his two-seat GSX-R1000 AMA Superstock racebike Thursday at Infineon Raceway. “That was insanely intense! I’ve ridden a lot of bikes, but that right there was the outer limits,” said Scott Ritchie Randell, winner of a contest put on during “The Woody Show,” which airs mornings on KITS 105.3 FM, “Live 105.” “I listen to them all the time,” continued Randell. “As soon as I found out it was AMA, because I’m a big fan, I was all over it.” After his ride with Ulrich, Randell said he was considering participating in a track day on his Honda CBR600F4i. Like Randell, Brian Arnold, Sports Editor for the Daily Republic, a daily newspaper in Fairfield, California, had previous motorcycle experience, but he said his fast laps around the 2.2-mile road course gave him a new perspective on the sport. “I have a new-found respect for motorcycles right now, for racing motorcycles,” said Arnold. “I just always thought it was fun and games to come out here and take some laps and stuff, but it’s work out there and you have to be in shape to do it. “It was a helluva lot of fun to go that fast, especially the acceleration. I’m used to riding motorcycles, but they don’t have power like this. I mean we were standing still and we were doing 70-80 mph by the time we got to the end of pit lane. You can’t do that on a normal bike. I loved the experience, and I wish I could come back and do it again some time.” Asked for his thoughts on the Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki two-seater program, which is used as an outreach tool to give a hands-on education on motorcycle road racing to local, general interest media members, Arnold said, “I think it’s actually a good idea. In fact, I’m surprised more people didn’t show up. I have friends that work at other newspapers who write about motorsports and stuff. They’re missing out. They really are. It’s something that you have to experience. Like you said before, you can watch, you can talk about it all you want but unless you get on the bike it’s not the same. Just the speed and acceleration is unmatched, even in a car. I’ve gone 120 mph in a car, but on a motorcycle it’s just a totally different experience.” The Woody Show host “White Menace” was not interested in riding with Ulrich, but his girlfriend Jackie Miranda accepted Ulrich’s invitation. In the span of two hot laps Miranda’s initial apprehension turned to exhilaration. “It was awesome. It really was an experience. I can’t believe I actually did that,” said Miranda. “I’ve watched [motorcycle road racing], but I’ve never been this close to the track, let alone been on the track. So it was really great. I didn’t expect it to be that fast, and I’m sure that’s not even close to as fast as they go when they race. But it was really great.” Ulrich’s teammate Robertino Pietri rode his GSX-R1000 Superstock racebike in close proximity to the two-seater to give the guest riders a taste for what it is like to actually be in a race, an experience that Miranda appreciated. “What was really exciting was watching [Robertino Pietri] on the track,” said Miranda. “When you see it on TV you never think they are as close as they are when you see it in person. It was great to experience that.”
