FIM World Superbike, USA Round Tickets go on Sale Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to Host Event July 11-13, 2014 MONTEREY, Calif. – Motorcycle enthusiasts eager to see the eni FIM Superbike World Championship return to the Monterey Peninsula may purchase tickets beginning January 22 at 8 a.m. PT online at MazdaRaceway.com or Ticketmaster.com or by calling the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca ticket office at 800-327-7322. This is the only U.S. appearance for World Superbike, which stops at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca July 11-13, 2014 for the series’ ninth race of a grueling 14 international race schedule. “World Superbike racing is spectacular,” said Gill Campbell, CEO/general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “And for fans, it is a chance to get up close with the riders, even participating in the open press conferences, which are typically restricted to select journalists.” This past September’s event at Mazda Raceway saw Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes (UK) win the first of two very competitive races while Aprilla’s Eugene Laverty won the second race, each making the USA Round one of their nine season wins. During the event CycleWorld.com asked Sykes what he thought of Mazda Raceway and he said, “First time for me riding here, and the circuit is very exciting. It’s something like the circuits I’m used to from the British Championship, really, where there’s many changes of elevation, they’re quite tight, a bit close to the barriers in some places—overall an exciting circuit, and yeah, still learning.” Sykes went on to win the overall 2013 championship after a second place finish in 2012. Sykes beat out Laverty (Ireland) and Sylvain Guintoli (France) and for Superbike’s top spot. Aprilla took its second consecutive manufacturers championship over rivals Kawasaki and BMW.
