Galfer USA Rider Tomas Puerta Clinches SuperSport Championship at Miller Oxnard, Calif. – Galfer USA riders continued to be a dominant force in AMA Pro Road Racing during round six, held August 2-4 at Miller Motorsports Park. The Utah track was especially good to Tomas Puerta, who clinched the SuperSport West title after a double-podium weekend. SuperBike KTM/HMC Racing’s Chris Fillmore and Taylor Knapp combined to give Galfer USA three top-ten finishes in SuperBike during the double-header weekend. Knapp finished tenth and eighth on his KTM RC8R, while Fillmore scored a best finish of eighth in race one. Daytona SportBike Race fans were seeing double in the Daytona SportBike class, as the results of race two were nearly identical to race one. That was double the good news for Galfer USA, whose riders filled the third through 11th spots in both races. JD Beach crossed the line third in both races, riding his RoadRace Factory Yamaha YZF-R6. Jake Lewis followed him across the line on his Meen Motorsports Racing R6. Race two was so intense that the top four riders were separated by just a little over one second at the checkered flag. Jake Gagne’s podium streak ended at Miller, but the RoadRace Factory rider still brought home a pair of fifth-place finishes. James Rispoli followed him in sixth—twice—on the Celtic Racing Suzuki GSX-R600. Dane Westby on the GEICO Honda CBR600RR and Jason DiSalvo on the Latus Motors Racing Triumph Daytona 675 offered some variety to the top ten. In race one, Westby finished seventh, while DiSalvo crossed the line in ninth. The two traded places in race two. Fernando Amantini rounded out the top ten in both Daytona SportBike races, riding the Team Amantini R6. SuperSport Tomas Puerta’s consistent podium finishes this season gave him a significant points lead heading into Miller. Thanks to a finish of third in race one and second in race two, Puerta clinched the SuperSport West Championship, with three rounds still remaining in the season. The RoadRace Factory rider and his Yamaha YZF-R6 have been a formidable combination all season. Wyatt Farris also had a memorable weekend at Miller, earning his first two podiums of the season. Farris rode his Meen Motorsports R6 to second in race one and third in race two. Harley-Davidson Series Michael Barnes gave Galfer USA another podium finish by taking third in the Harley-Davidson Series race. Barnes was riding his Spyke’s Harley-Davidson XR1200, and he continues to hold down third in the championship. The Galfer USA riders are now heading East for round seven, which will be held during the MotoGP weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, August 16-18. More, from a press release issued by Team 95: Team 95 (Hayden Gillim) and Red Bull RoadRace Factory (JD Beach) Miller Recap After a weekend off from racing JD Beach and Hayden Gillim where back at it in Tooele, UT at Miller MotorSports Park. JD had a great weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca coming home with a 5th adding on to his Top 5 list. Hayden had to sit out of the West Coast round to save some money to be able to finish strong the rest of the season. He did enjoy the time he got to spend at Laguna helping and talking to sponsors and getting to watch MotoGP! Hayden was really looking forward to getting to Miller. A track he had great success at last year and really enjoys. Unfortunately he would be denied of that this year. Little nagging problems with the bike all weekend made it a tough weekend to handle. With 4 weeks until he will be packing up for New Jersey there’s plenty of time to get the bugs worked out and back on top of his game. Team 95 Hayden Gillim (7th and DNF) “After having such a great weekend at Mid-Ohio and going to a track like Miller I was really excited. Miller is another track I just really enjoy racing at. We really had to pull things together and cut it tight on budget to make it happen. Even after not getting the results we had hoped for it was a good experience for me between having to travel there and learning how to deal with such a hard weekend.” “Looking back at the weekend I know I had the speed to run up front. We qualified 2nd and had the pace Sunday in the warmup. I knew I could put the fast laps in but just couldn’t put it all together. Sometimes there’s something’s you can’t help from happening. My crew (Rick Mathney and Jon Heinen) worked so hard all weekend but we just couldn’t help bad luck. I can’t wait until New Jersey and I know my bikes will be good to go.” Red Bull/RoadRace Factory JD Beach (3rd and 3rd) After coming away with another Top 5 at Laguna Seca JD was really looking forward to Miller. He had some unfinished business with that track. He has run strong there in the past but crashes and bad luck have hurt his results. This past weekend he finally got his revenge on the track and was able to get a double podium. “At Laguna I was just wanting to get out of there with another Top 5. I really like the track but its been hard to get good results there. But after being able to run strong there I was really looking forward to getting to Miller. That track is so much fun, fast, and flows really well. I was glad that we had are own race weekend there and didn’t have to share the track. We got to have two races and more track time so that was awesome.” “Scott (Jensen) and Danny (Anderson) had there hands full all weekend. On top of normal bike stuff I broke a bike in half during a qualifying crash and making that bike unable to be used for the rest of the weekend. We started out really strong from the first session on the track. Coming away with double thirds it was awesome. Both races we had some great battles for the lead and led some more laps. Every race we keep getting stronger, we have a few weeks until New Jersey but I can’t wait to get racing again.” With a break until New Jersey MotorSports Park it will give Hayden and JD plenty of time to get some things done. Hayden has some training and bike repairing to do. Nothing major but everything has to be perfect for the last race of the year. JD will get back to his roots and race some Dirt Track. He has a few AMA Pro races lined up to do. More, from a press release issued by BP Racing: Brazilian Sebastiao Ferreira and American rider CJ Weaver fight for SuperSport West points Tooele, UT – BP Racing’s Brazilian rider Sebastiao Ferreira takes an outstanding 4th place finish in what was hard fought and well earned Geico AMA Pro Motorcyle-Superstore.com SuperSport class Race 1 at Miller Motorsports Park. In addition to Ferreira’s 4th place finish, BP Racing rider CJ Weaver took home a 13th place finish and a 6th place finish in the Geico AMA Pro Motorcyle-Superstore.com SuperSport class. Team Owner Mike Hammett had this to say about the weekend “Coming into Miller we felt like we had the right setup to run up front with Joe Roberts and Tomas Puerta. Throughout qualifying we were about half a second off the front. In race one Sebastiao pushed and finished strong with a 4th place finish. “CJ was having some setup issues and the bike needed some dialing in. Come race 2 the bikes were dialed in and Sebastiao was second fastest all weekend and was strong in 5th place, when on the last lap, he tucked the front end and wasn’t able to finish the race. CJ continued on to a fantastic 6th place finish.” Commented Manager Ken Chewey “The weekend started off great I felt really good going into the round and felt like I could have the chance to give everyone a good run. I didn’t quite qualify where I wanted but finished in 4th in race one. In race two I was running in a strong 5th with 4th place in my sights and I told myself I can catch him and pass him at the line, unfortunately I tucked the front in the last corner and couldn’t finish the race. I am very pleased with the bike and the team and will have to put in a lot of work and qualify better at Jersey to finish 2nd or 3rd in my west championship point’s race. My team worked hard for me as always and I went faster than I did in previous years with the second fastest lap of the weekend being my 1:56.709. I was able to earn some more points in the west division and would like to thank everyone for the hard work that was put in.” comments Sebastiao Ferreira. CJ Weaver states “This weekend started off great, I was pleased with the bike and my lap times were improving with every lap turned. I would like to thank BP Racing/RedZone Racing for all the support they have given me. I am happy with my results at miller and am pleased with my progress and how much I have learned this season. After my 13th place and a 6th place finish and having some great battles on the track, I feel great for Jersey and look forward to learning the track.” BP Racing would like to thank Mach 1, Optimal Racing, Life in Christ, Moto D, Ricondi Leathers, Shoei Helmets, EDR Performance, K-Tech Suspension, Leo Vince Exhaust, Galfer Brakes, Vortex, Ignited Soul Apparel, Zero Gravity, Pacific Track Time, Drastikk Graphics, Outer Circle Motorsports, RedZone Racing, Motorex, Deion Device, Orient Express. More, from a press release issued by Ben Young Racing: Young Back on Track at Miller Motorsport Park TOOELE, UTAH – Aug. 8, 2013 – Canada’s Ben Young was back on track this past weekend at Miller Motorsports Park earning a 12th and 14th place finish. Young had to miss Round 5 of the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca due to the privateer team’s modest budget. Young seemed eager and primed to establish himself as a top-10 contender at Miller after a challenging weekend last July at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio where he took home an 18th and a 16th place finish. The Thornbury-based pilot of the #86 BYR Yamaha R6 got a good start in Saturday’s AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race and held his position for the first lap. Young tried his best to hang with Benny Solis and Jake Zemke but didn’t have enough power to stick with them. After a huge moment on the 3rd lap, Young lost a significant amount of time that he knew he’d have to make up quickly. After settling down and getting back into a rhythm Young began to battle with a group of three riders including himself, fellow Canadian Kenny Riedmann and Bryce Prince. “I had a good ride with Kenny showing him a wheel a lot. Kenny crashed out when Bryce was in front of me and I passed him with two laps to go up the inside in corner #5.” said Young. Young held his position right to the line to finish 12th in the first race of the weekend. After a good morning warm up on Sunday Young knew he had a good set up for the second AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race of the weekend. Running a race-pace better than the day before Young was feeling confident and charged hard to continue his progress. However the group in front of him pulled away, leaving a gap of a full second on him. Young battled with Riedmann throughout the race and finished 14th just behind him. Riedmann was assessed a five-second jump start penalty placing him just behind Young in the official results. “I managed to close the gap on Kenny. I came really close to passing him on the last lap but I just couldn’t make a pass stick. My 14th place finish moved us to 11th in the points, just seven points out of tenth in the championship standings.” said Young Young’s last appearance in the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike class at Miller Motorsports Park back in 2012 saw him cross the line in 21st place. This past weekend’s results of a 12th and 14th place finish shows his continued dedication, persistence and progress. Up next for the BYR Team is a rare appearance at a Canadian track as Young will take to the newly renovated Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (formerly Mosport International Raceway) for the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship doubleheader in Bowmanville, Ont. August 9-11. Running out of the Hindle Exhaust paddock Young will compete in the Hindle Exhaust Pro Sport Bike class against Canada’s top Sportbike riders. Tickets are available by calling 1-800-866-1072 or (905) 983-9141, or by emailing [email protected]. Fans can also visit the website at www.canadiantiremotorsportpark.com.
