Only a few hours after the last heat at Losail the members of Team Klaffi Honda were on their way to Phillip Island. The Australian island – situated close to Melbourne, is a place of natural beauty, sandy beaches, tranquil wetlands and a unique wildlife experiences. Penguins and koalas are at home here. But another very special highlight of the Island is the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. The track itself is said to be one of the fastest in the world and the view down Gardner Straight almost takes you off into the blue ocean. The Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is the scene of the second round of World’s Superbike Championship 03-05 of March. Alex Barros, Team Klaffi Honda’s Brazilian rider, knows the track since years. Alex Barros: “The track is always a real challenge. It is a fascinating combination of fast straights and sweeping corners. And don’t forget nature which may also play a part through elements like the wind. Concerning the Grand Prix races of the two last year I don’t have pleasant memories of the track. In 2004 I had a crash. In 2005 I finished 5th. The race was normal. I lost a bit of time while I tried to pass Capirossi and then I went after the leaders but I had grip problems and things got more difficult. Now I attack again with the Klaffi Honda Fireblade. I can’t wait for the race to match with the Australian riders which will be very fast on their home track. But I always race to win!” Phillip Island Circuit Length: 4 445 m, finish line 835 m Maximum slope: 57 m Lap record: Troy Corser 1999, Super Pole 1’32.193, Race 1’33.019 Time differences Australia Europe Brazil Race I: Sunday, 12.oo Australia = Sunday, 02.oo a.m. Central Europe = Saturday, 22.oo p.m. Sao Paulo Race II: Sunday, 15.3o Australia = 05.3o a.m. Central Europe = Sunday 01.3o a.m. Sao Paulo TV Coverage Europe Eurosport 1 Sunday, 02.oo Superbike race I, 07.3o Superbike race II Great Britain British Eurosport Sunday, 01.oo Superbike race I, 09.3o repeat race I, 10.3o Superbike race II, 17.3o repeat all races Brazil – Bandsport Saturday, 21.45
