September 4-6, 2010 Miller Motorsports Park- East Track SRA-West Formula Sidecar Series hosted by: AHRMA Bonneville GP TOOELE, UTAH TEAM BECKER MOTO WORKS DOES THE SIDECAR DOUBLE AT MILLER… AGAIN. Team Becker Moto Works managed a double win for the second year in a row at the SRA-West’s annual “Inland Invasion” at Miller Motorsports Park this Labor Day weekend. The father/ son team of William and Eric Becker led from flag-to-flag on Saturday, winning handily over rivals Team Subculture (Wade Boyd/ Christine Blunk) and Team RGM (Rick Murray/ Unlisted). Sunday’s race saw Team Subculture’s Boyd holeshot from the second row, followed by Becker. For the first three laps of the six lap event Boyd would be under constant pressure until Becker made an astounding move on the outside of turn 1, carrying huge corner speed while floating on two wheels. A dogfight was inevitable, but it took an unexpected form. Team RGM had again caught the pair after encountering traffic on the start. The battle for second suddenly heated up and Becker drew away, finishing over half a straightaway ahead despite being forced partially into the dirt while passing lap traffic. Amazing sideways driving from Boyd allowed Team Subculture to finish second, just barely ahead of Team RGM, who themselves had come out of semi-retirement to do the event. Fourth place was held both days by Lucky 13 racing, the husband/wife team of Mark Macunga and Bobbette Burdick. The pair had not been on the machine in over a year while Macunga served overseas, and in Sunday’s race they had regained enough confidence to lay within striking distance of the battle for second place. Other notable finishes came from Nol Van Zwieten, who built a pristine vintage sidecar with Harley-Davidson power. With the bike never having seen the track, the new team managed to make a huge amount of adjustment and gain a lot of speed throughout the weekend. The SRA-West will next head to the Streets Of Willow course in Rosamond, California October 16-17, hosted by the Willow Springs Motorcycle Club (WSMC). With only three events remaining, there looks to be little to stop Team Becker Moto Works, and the points battle for second place is where all eyes are.
