Round 6 of the Law Tigers’ Sandia Motorcycle Roadracing Championships hosted by SMRI was held at Sandia Motor Speedway on Sunday, October 16th, 2016.

SMRI would like to congratulate all its 2016 season champions including: Mikey Shreve in Unlimited Grand Prix, Expert Open Superbike, Expert Formula 1000, and Expert Open Superbike; Chazz Neiderman in Expert Middleweight Superbike and Modern Vintage; Dylan Beck in Novice GTU, Novice GTO, Amateur GTU, and Amateur GTO; Dennis Parrish in Historic Vintage Ultra Lightweight, Historic Vintage Lightweight, Historic Vintage Middleweight, Historic Vintage Heavyweight, and Super Vintage; Edda Tulley in Formula Femme; Greg Sterosky in Amateur Thunderbike; Scott Metcalfe in Amateur Club Sport; and Steve Brown in Amateur 250 Supersport and Amateur 500 Supersport.

Kelcey Walker set the tone for the day in Unlimited Grand Prix jumping out to a three second lead while points leader Mikey Shreve fought through traffic after a poor start. Shreve then set out to catch Walker and the race was set. After five laps Shreve closed to within a few tenths of a second before Walker crashed in turn four handing the victory to Shreve. In a show of sportsmanship Shreve gave his teammate Walker a ride back to the pits on the cool-down lap.

The closest racing of the day occurred in Expert Open Superbike where Edda Tulley, Lance Echols, Greg Sterosky, and Dan Junick undertook a ten lap melee to determine 5th place in the race, finishing in the order above. In the same race Demo Klonis and Chazz Niederman passed and repassed each other several times battling for third while Mikey Shreve ran away at the front followed by Kelcey Walker.

Racing in the Amateur 250 Supersport class was at its best of the season with Steve Brown setting a best lap of the season in the class of 1:01.9 followed closely by Scott Metcalfe who set a second fastest time of the season at 1:02.0. Next season we look forward to a 1:00 lap, guys!!!

SMRI will break for the winter, but look for more racing beginning in May 2017. For more information please visit www.smri-racing.org.
