There is a potential scam going on that is using Roadracing World’s name.

Earlier today, the Roadracing World office received a phone call from Larry Poons, an AHRMA racer who is also a famous artist. Poons was returning a phone call he received from person who identified himself as a Roadracing World reporter seeking to interview Poons for an upcoming article.

Nobody who works for Roadracing World–including the reporter the caller was impersonating –is working on such an article for Roadracing World.

Paula Poons, the wife of AHRMA racer and artist Larry Poons, fielded the original phone call from the person claiming to be a specific reporter for Roadracing World. “I received a phone call at 12:26 p.m. Eastern Time,” said Paul Poons. “The person identified himself as [a reporter for Roadracing World] asking to speak with Larry Poons, saying Roadracing World wanted to do a story on creative people who happened to race. And since Larry is an artist he thought that he would be an ideal candidate and wondered if Larry would mind speaking with him. Larry is out of town, so I gave him Larry’s cell phone number and suggested he contact him directly. He did that and left a message on Larry’s number. Then when Larry called the Roadracing World office the mystery began.”

If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from Roadracing World and you have any suspicions about their identity or motive, please call our office immediately at (951) 245-6411.
