CCS Florida Moroso Motorsports Park West Palm Beach, Florida March 16, 2008 Michael Rouleau won his first Unlimited Grand Prix race at Moroso Motorsports Park. After taking the holeshot with his GSX-R1000, Rouleau, Darren Luck and Marco Martinez broke away from fourth place Lars Remsen in a three-rider fight for the lead. Martinez was finally able to make a passing move on lap five, running later on the brakes with his GSX-R1000 and making the outside maneuver into Turn Seven. But Martinez dropped back to second in the next turn and couldn’t regain the advantage on the final lap. Rouleau took the checkered flag ahead of Martinez, Luck, Remsen, and Alex Miniaci. Rouleau was presented with the Leon Backus Memorial trophy after the race by former racer Gerry Hasher. Backus was a champion rider in 1989 and the awards podium is dedicated to his memory. This year’s trophy was designed by Martinez, a three-time Florida Champion and a former lap record holder at Moroso. On the podium, Rouleau exclaimed, “I think Marco had the pace to beat me. He said in the past that I’m difficult to get around. So, he got around me at the end of the drag strip and was on the outside and he was just gracious. He should have gone ahead to the inside, but he didn’t. He left me plenty of room and he hit a curb and that was his downfall. He was too kind for the pass and he hit a curb and it pushed him a little bit wide and I was able to get back underneath him. But I made it. It’s my first time. It took me 13 years to beat him. So, if he’s going to be gracious or not, I’m going to take it.” Rouleau also won the Unlimited Superbike race. Martinez won the GTO, Supertwins, and Heavyweight Superbike races. And Luck won the Heavyweight Supersport and Middleweight Superbike races. The biggest winner of the weekend was Rodolfo Ramirez, who took early leads in all four of his classes and went on to victory in GT Lights, Lightweight Grand Prix, Lightweight Superbike and Lightweight Supersport on a borrowed SV650. This was the final CCS Florida race at Moroso Motorsports Park as it is currently configured. The track is scheduled for reconstruction and redevelopment with a new road course layout, and is due to be reopened in October of this year. The remaining Moroso events scheduled from May through August will be held at Homestead-Miami Speedway instead. UNLIMITED GRAND PRIX RESULTS: 1. Michael Rouleau (Suz GSX-R1000); 2.
