“In all honesty, I didn’t feel like I got on the gas too hard or nothing like that. The rear end just snapped loose. I flipped over the highside, and the bike landed on top of me,” said Kawasaki’s Roger Lee Hayden, after crashing his factory ZX-6RR Supersport bike in practice Wednesday morning at Daytona International Speedway. “I hit my head pretty good, and the footpeg went through my knee,” continued Hayden. “So I went over to Halifax (Medical Center) this morning and got a (CT) scan and they sewed my knee back up (with six stitches). Now I’ve got matching holes in my knees.” Hayden suffered serious skin abrasions in a road cycling accident one month ago in California, causing him to miss two preseason test sessions. “The CT scan came out negative,” said Hayden. “The chief doctor over there gave me the green light (to go racing), said it was all good. They ran some other tests on my head, mainly precautionary, because my helmet was tore up pretty good. I just thank God I was wearing an Arai helmet, because it did its job.”
