Fast from the start – Rookies 2019 season kicks off in Jerez

The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies hit the ground running this weekend in Jerez just four weeks after the super fast and successful preseason test on the KTM RC 250 Rs at the classic Spanish venue.

It is a traditional start, not only for the 25 Rookies, but for the European campaign in the other World Championship classes. The Gran Premio Red Bull de España will be the first opportunity that the Grand Prix paddock has to take a look at the 2019 Rookies field. And look they do as they know that this is where the next generation of stars are being developed.

To all over from all over

The first two races, like the total 12 race calendar will be live on web and TV around the world, to the four corners of the earth from whence the Rookies come, the finest racing youth.

Last year’s winners like 15-Year-old Spaniard Carlos Tatay and Yuki Kunii, the 16-year-old Japanese, naturally start 2019 as favourites, especial as both were very impressive at the test, but they know it will not be just a battle of the ‘old hands’.

The newcomers were exceptionally quick to get up to speed this year including a pair of fast Spaniards, 15-year-old David Salvador and 14-year-old Pedro Acosta. Indonesian 15-year-old Mario Aji and Matteo Bertelle, the 15-year-old Italian, will make sure they intrude on the Spaniards’ home track advantage.

Making history

So we have all the makings of another incredible multinational multitalented season, the 13th for the Rookies Cup. With ex Rookies spread throughout the Grand Prix classes, this weekend will not only produce another thrilling pair of Rookies Cup races but will keep the ex Rookie, GP podium count clicking, it currently stands at 266.

Broadcast

This weekend’s Rookies Cup races can be seen live on www.redbull.tv and on TV stations around the world.

Race 1 is at 16:30 CET on Saturday and Race 2 is on Sunday at 15:30, the show starts 10 minutes before the race.
