Kevin Clark, a dirt track race official and former racer from Townsend, Massachusetts, won a Honda 450-powered custom dirt track racebike in a raffle to benefit the dirt track portion of the Roadracing World Action Fund. “I’m still kind of overwhelmed by the whole deal,” Clark, 44, told Roadracingworld.com. “I’m in the sport, so I heard of the raffle early on, but I was like, ‘Yeah, right. I’ll never get that.’ But I bought some tickets to just support the fund.” The raffle was started early in 2005 by Peter Giammalvo of Sideways Promotions, a dirt track race promoter. The idea was to build a custom 450cc dirt track bike with parts and services donated by several companies (J&M Frames, Concord Honda, First Klass Glass, Weiss Racing, East Coast Wheels, SuperTrapp, Wakula Racing, A1Cycles.com, Bettencourt’s Honda-Suzuki, Sideways Promotions, ZEKE Design, Fast Plates and Traxxion Dynamics), raffle the bike off by selling no more than 3000 tickets at $10 each online and at dirt track race events and donate all the proceeds to the dirt track portion of the Roadracing World Action Fund, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to reducing racetrack injuries by encouraging the use of soft barriers. Approximately 2100 tickets were sold for the raffle drawing, raising $21,000 for The Fund. The winning ticket in the raffle was drawn by Champion dirt track racer, and Roadracingworld Action Fund Board Member, Chris Carr October 1 at the DuQuoin Mile dirt track event in DuQuoin, Illinois. “My buddies Rodney Farris and Aaron Cramer must have been looking over my shoulder that day,” continued Clark, referring to friends who died while racing dirt track. Clark said he didn’t know what he planned to do with the bike, other than ride it at his first opportunity, but said he may sponsor a young racer by letting him race the bike.
