Honestly, I was hesitant to ride with anything that called itself Racer. It really sounded like an issue of low self-esteem, or of a low-end product that was trying really, really hard to sound like something it wasn’t. It didn’t help that the word “Racer” appears what seems to be at least a couple of dozen times on each set of gloves. But once you get beyond that, the Racer Sicuro glove is a pretty nice piece of gear. Kangaroo leather palms with “grip diamonds” helped provide good feel from the bars to my hands. And the protective credentials are top-notch. SuperFabric abrasion-resistant material is used on the heel of the hand and on the outside edge of the glove. Knox armor is used on the palm as well to help protect the scaphoid bone from damage. A titanium plate helps protect the back of the big knuckles; foam protects the knuckles on the back of the fingers, and the three largest fingers are individually vented. The pinky is connected with a leather bridge to the ring finger. The gloves fit well, straight out of the package. I wore them for 130 miles of wrestling an older YZF-R1 around Auto Club Speedway, and my left hand had zero blistering or callusing. The right was starting to show a bit of callus at the base of the fingers, but then again, this was a big brute of a machine, and I have to admit that I was engaged in a bit of “death grip on the bars” action, know what I mean? By the end of the day, I got over the name and recognized that these were a solid, well-designed glove that belonged on the track. A Sharpie would take care of the only fault I could find. With a suggested retail of $239.99, they are not inexpensive, but these really do seem to be Racer-ready. For more information, contact Racer Gloves, Dept.
