The roar of race engines may be on the horizon for a place that flashed across pages of the world’s newspapers over 60 years ago. Fast Visions of Tennessee has announced they have initiated plans for the construction of Thousand Suns International Road Course at the historic Heritage Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Located in the foothills of East Tennessee, Oak Ridge rose from rural farmlands in 1943 to be the secret that helped end World War II. Heritage Center is one of eight hallmark sites that were part of the Manhattan Project in 1943. Today this community is internationally known for its energy, materials and transportation research. The Oak Ridge National Labs have developed materials that have made a profound impact on motorsports. Most notably the carbon brake rotors that are standard equipment on Formula 1 race cars and MotoGP motorcycles. Fast Visions of Tennessee is developing plans to begin construction of a 3.7 mile roadracing facility in 2009 that will be a cornerstone venue at the Heritage Center. Plans call for a combination of slow and high speed curves, and a back stretch of 4,400 feet that will see 200 mph speeds. Work continues with the Community Reuse Organization of East Tennessee and the Department Of Energy to evaluate opportunities. “Preservation of history is important to our plans. History combined with motorsports will be exciting entertainment.” claims Fast Visions’ representative Eric Wilson. “Heritage Center is a natural for hosting motorsports. Interstates, facilities and infrastructure are well suited for such a venue. The Smoky Mountains, Deals Gap and The Honda Hoot will add up to some very special events. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are pleased with the progress we have made.” A certified noise engineer from Tennessee Tech University has completed an assessment and determined negligible impact on surrounding residential areas. Plans include facilities to be certified for major events, with performance driving schools and track rental for teams and manufacturers available. Discussions with several national championship series have occurred to gage interest in scheduling events. Motorsports is the fastest growing spectator sport in the world and Oak Ridge is the place for a new American motorsport’s legend. To learn more visit www.ThousandSunsMotorsports.com
