Dave Lace of Thornhill, Egremont, Cumbria, England, sent in this photo of Rossi The Cat along with a note: “Can I introduce you to our Tonkinese cat, Rossifumi Cosmico! He’s currently 16 years old and still going strong, although four years or so ago we almost lost him (due to a serious illness) just a few weeks before his 12th birthday. When the vet managed to save him we decided that we had to do something special so we arranged a birthday card, signed by his namesake! “I have to add that we’re fortunate to know some people in Tavullia and one of them made this happen for us once we explained to him what we wanted! “The cat is known to us as Rossi but RossifumiCosmico is the full name on his Pedigree certificate! “Incidentally, if you’ve ever read the book ‘Ring of Fire. (The Inside Story of Valentino Rossi and MotoGP)’ by Rick Broadbent, part way down page 126 there’s a mention of us at Mugello 2004. The piece was originally put together by Ali Forth when she was at Yamaha. It made it into a feature on the Rossi phenomenon in MCN, Motorsport Aktuell and a couple of other European mags. It’s not exactly accurate but hey, it’s Street Cred I guess! “It was very amusing to go to work one day and find 75% of the factory talking about it because one of the guys had been reading the book and said, ‘Hey, there’s a couple from Cumbria mentioned in here!’ One of my friends had leaned over, looked at the paragraph and casually said, ‘Oh yeah, that’s Dave and his wife. He works the big machine in Bay Three!’ Apparently the response was, ‘WHAT! This guy works in HERE?’ “Fame was very fleeting – it was back to normality a day or so later, although it has been mentioned a time or two since as other people read it!” Rossi’s humans are Dave and Jean Lace. Do you have a pet named after a famous racer, or know someone else who has a pet named after a famous racer? Send an in-focus pet photo (as a jpeg file) along with the name of the pet and the name of their human or humans, to [email protected] . The photo may be featured on roadracingworld.com during slow news days.
