Danville, VA (July 23, 2010) – Worldwide attention will be focused on VIRginia International Raceway as the historic resort hosts the concluding championship round from the very first race season of the North American eGrandPrix TTXGP electric motorcycle series. The champion to be named at this event will qualify to run for the international eGrandPrix championship in Spain in two months. Scheduled to take place on August 13th through the 15th, this will be part of the upcoming Suzuki White Lightning AMA Pro SuperBike Nationals presented by Foremost Insurance event. “With so much news currently focused on alternative energy, the TTXGP serves to remind everyone how motorsports actually drives futuristic technology that can benefit the environment,” said Josh Lief, General Manager of VIRginia International Raceway. “This event will highlight how zero carbon, clean emission innovation can provide a race series that’s truly fun, fast and exciting.” With sixteen bikes from six different countries running peak speeds approaching 120 mph, the first TTXGP debuted in June 2009 at the Isle of Man as the world’s first low-carbon sanctioned motorsport event. Founded by Azhar Hussain, an entrepreneur with a history in the electronics industry, these highly innovative machines have been likened to laptops on wheels with on board WiFi with the very latest in motor & battery technology. In just the first year of competition, these bikes are already running speeds in excess of 110 mph, which is within 85% of the latest gasoline powered competition motorcycles. Thad Wolff, rider for the Blue Grass, VA Elecktra Racing team, will race at the season finale at VIR in an attempt to qualify for a bid to win the international series title. Depending on their finish, they hope to be included with several teams that will start loading immediately following this event at VIR for travel to Spain to compete for the first ever overall world championship against other riders from Britain and Italy. With technical assistance from James Madison University and Virginia Tech, this world record setting bike has brought national attention to this new form of motorcycle racing with alternative energy technology. The entire team will also be the subject of an hour long Discovery Channel TV documentary debuting this fall. The Elecktra Racing team will also be on hand with other riders for a press conference to take place during VIR’s Media Day scheduled to take place on the afternoon of August 12th.
