Newly-crowned 2010 MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo enjoyed a homecoming fit for heroes when he landed in his native Mallorca yesterday, with thousands of people turning out to greet the victorious Fiat Yamaha rider as he touched down on home shores. He was met by crowds and dignitaries at the airport before enjoying a parade through the capital city of Palma de Mallorca, ending at the Illes Balears Presidential Palace. He then presented one of his special ‘Astronaut’ helmets to President Frances Antich, before joining his family on the palace balcony to wave to the thousands of people below, who joined together in a rendition of ‘We Are The Champions’. The 23-year-old will now enjoy some time at home with his friends and family before the penultimate round of the championship at Estoril in Portugal in ten day’s time.
