Motorsport Park Hastings: Nebraska Governor Signs Safety Barrier Bill On TrackAddix Superbike Hastings, NE: Nebraska’s Governor Dave Heineman was on hand during Thursday’s ground-breaking ceremony at Motorsport Park Hastings to ceremonially sign bill LB818 into law. The governor used a TrackAddix “Superbike” as a desk to sign the bill. The ceremony also saw Governor Heineman, Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy, Senator Carroll Burling, Hastings’ Mayor Matt Rossen and other dignataries posed on the motorcycle for photo opportunities. More than 100 residents, riders, and representatives from local newspapers and television stations came together on a field east of Hastings to celebrate the beginning of construction on this road course. Bill LB818 provides for the use of tires as safety barriers and buffers at the track. Previous law did not allow for the large accumulation and storage of tires. Without the bill, Motorsport Park Hastings would have had to wait for at least a year to receive approval from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Equality. Bill LB818 gained its fast-track status with the help of Senator Carroll Burling, who introduced the bill January 4, 2006 and made it his priority bill on February 6th. The Legislature gave its final approval on February 28. Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy also attended the event and has had an important role in the Motorsport Park Hastings project, having formerly served as Hastings’ mayor. “We have been working for so long to make Hastings a destination,” he said. “This is a great start with the number of activities that it will host.” The track’s opening ceremony and inaugural track day is scheduled for July 8, 2006. The Motorcycle Roadracing Association (MRA) will visit Hastings on July 29-30 and September 9-10 to host motorcycle road racing events. The TrackAddix GP will hold Championship Cup Series (CCS) sanctioned motorcycle road racing events on August 5-6 and September 21-22. More information regarding the Motorsport Park Hastings race track can be found on the racemph.com web site.
