Beats from the Bayou: This Weekend’s Triumph Big Kahuna at NOLA Motorsports Park to Feature Multiple Musical Acts DENVER, Colo. (October 4, 2012) – In addition to the amazing food that will be available this weekend at NOLA Motorsports Park for the Triumph Big Kahuna New Orleans presented by Dunlop Tire and LeoVince, M1 PowerSports will also be bringing in a number of local musical acts to entertain the crowds. This weekend’s event is the final round of the 2012 GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing schedule and is on track to become one of the biggest motorsports events in the South. On Saturday, the following acts will be on site: On Saturday, the world famous Roots of Music youth marching band will start a new tradition of leading out fans into the fan walk. This critically acclaimed music education program for middle-school students in New Orleans was recently tapped to play in the 2013 Rose Bowl parade, and this is a great opportunity to enjoy their impressive show. Tap your feet and hum the beat to the sounds of this true southern marching band. June Yamagishi is on tap to perform the National Anthem on his electric guitar during Saturday’s opening ceremonies. This R&B, Blues, and Jazz musician is no stranger to New Orleans. After revolutionizing the Jazz scene in his homeland of Japan, June relocated to the birthplace of the music he has spent his career performing, New Orleans LA. Upon his arrival, he linked up with some of New Orleans’s finest to record “Together Again – Blues in New Orleans.” He also appeared on the HBO series “Treme” in 2011, bringing his career to the big screen on the episode “Santa Claus do you ever get the Blues.” Look forward to hearing the southern twang as June delivers the national anthem this weekend. The Krewe of the Rolling Elvi was established in 2003, paying homage to Mr. Elvis Aaron Presley in the most fitting way possible: on scooters during Mardi Gras. All of their members dress up as various versions of The King, and, as with most royalty, they do not walk; they ride motorized scooters. These mobile entertainers are very excited to be participating in the inaugural M1 PowerSports and GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing event in New Orleans. It allows them to share their love of all things Elvis, Motors and Fun. With the festive atmosphere, and non-stop action on the track, this event is exactly what the King would have loved to do between Concerts. They plan to come out and bring that same Rock ‘N’ Roll fun and entertainment to the racing fans on Saturday. Sunday’s entertainment offerings will be bolstered by the following acts: Tione Johnson will perform Sunday’s National Anthem. Tione is a 12 year old native of New Orleans, who began singing at age 4. Her first big performance came when she was just 8 years old, singing the National Anthem for the New Orleans Hornets/San Antonio Spurs playoffs series. It landed her a feature story on the front page of the Sunday’s Times Picayune and ultimately her first national appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. She appeared on Ellen three more times after her stellar performance, including Ellen’s Even Bigger Really Big Show in Las Vegas. Known as “The Little Girl with the BIG voice,” Tione has been a local favorite at events around New Orleans as a featured artist including The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Gentilly Fest, Pontchartrain Park Festival, Paul Sanchez’s Nine Lives CD (Threadhead Records), New Orleans Saints games, numerous conventions and local theater productions of Annie and The Wiz. She has written and recorded original music for her first single, “Dance, Shake” and is currently working in the studio on her upcoming album. Since forming in 2007, The Revivalists have earned their standing among the best original bands in New Orleans. The group’s combination of danceable rock and soulful songwriting (and brilliantivity) comes to life through a meticulously crafted and ever-evolving live performance. The band has been instrumental in the growth of New Orleans’ burgeoning indie rock scene, and they have achieved success and notoriety in the city’s competitive musical landscape. The 610 Stompers were born in the summer of 2009, just as The Saints began their march to the Superbowl. As fate would have it, the Stompers were baptized in the twin crucibles of the now famous “Buddy D” parade and the “Lombardi Gras” Superbowl Parade” – their first two public performances. From there they have gone on to perform in Mardi Gras parades, at Hornets games, on local television and radio, and we’ve lent a hand to many charitable organizations in their fundraising efforts. They’ve even danced on the “Tonight Show.” The 610 Stompers is a diverse group of ordinary men, from their 20s to their 60s. Composed of doctors, lawyers, professionals, laborers, students, teachers, and parents the music fuels their desire and together they jive and create dance moves sure to entertain our viewers for this weekend. Entertainment options are being added by the day, parking and paddock access are both FREE. Special motorcycle-only parking areas will be located in the center of the paddock and include FREE coat and helmet check. This will be the entertainment offering of the year, so don’t miss out!
