Burke & Moham honored, Sorensen remembered at MRA awards

Denver, CO, November 14, 2015 – The MRA Championship Series held its annual awards ceremony on Saturday night at Casselman’s in downtown Denver, Colorado with about 120 racers, fans, sponsors, and significant others in attendance. Ryan Burke was awarded the #1 MRA plate and Shannon Moham took home 11 class championship plaques.

The evening started out with a 20 minute video produced by Aaron Hersh summarizing the MRA season which included a combination of on-bike video and still photos from several MRA events during the season. Set to some inspirational music, it got the audience fired up for the rest of the evening. The video is available at

By a large margin, Shannon Moham took home the biggest haul of hardware. Moham amassed 11 class championships, the #4 plate, and was recognized as a race school/superstreet instructor. When pressed as to his plans for next year, Moham only mentioned that his Suzuki SV650 has gotten old.

The top fast guy in the club went to Ryan Burke, who is the #1 plate holder for the MRA in 2016. In Burke’s typical humbly manner, he thanked his family and supporters for a fantastic year and is excited to come back for 2016.

The most touching and heartfelt moments were those in remembrance of MRA racer Carl Sorensen who tragically lost his life while practicing for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb earlier this year. Carl was the creator of the MRA’s Thunderbike class so in his honor there is now a travelling trophy given to the annual winner of Thunderbike. This year Jon Glaefke was presented with the trophy by Carl’s wife Lacy Sorensen and Carl’s brothers Chris and Kurt Sorensen. The remembrance was concluded with Chris Sorensen retiring his brother’s race number 217, which Carl had chosen as Feb 17th was his birthday.

Finally, the MRA finished the ceremony with the top ten plate holders for 2016.
