Defending MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin will miss the first two rounds of the 2025 season after suffering a second preseason training injury and undergoing surgery, Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola said.

“For sure he won’t be in Argentina. And then we will see. We want to have him in very good shape. I don’t want to rush his recovery,” Rivola said ahead of the season-opening round in Buriram, which Martin will miss as well.

Martin crashed heavily on the first day of 2025 testing in Sepang, injuring his left foot and right hand. Just before leaving for Buriram, he was training on a supermotard when he crashed again, injuring his left hand. He underwent surgery on Feb. 25th. Martin will be replaced in Buriram by test rider Lorenzo Savadori.
