Mugello’s Italian festival lifts MotoGP TV audience to all-time high in Italy The breathtaking racing in last Sunday’s MotoGP race in Mugello, Italy, which saw four Italian riders scoring an historic clean sweep after scrapping for victory in front of 88,000 elated fans, led the Gran Premio Alice d’Italia to become the most followed motorcycle race ever in Italy. The 45-minute spectacle that saw superstar Valentino Rossi finally win out against fellow countrymen Max Biaggi, Loris Capirossi and Marco Melandri recorded a 47.3% market share and was seen by an average 7.6 million viewers through Mediaset’s channel Italia 1. This is the largest ever audience figure for motorcycle racing in Italy in terms of market share, and the figures are even more impressive considering the fact that the total number of single viewers who tuned into the transmission during the whole programme was well over 10 million. The all-Italian battle also had excellent audiences in the United Kingdom, where the BBC scored 1.3 million viewers and a 16% share. In Spain, despite Sete Gibernau’s crash, the market share for the broadcast in TVE-1 was over 31%.
