A BROKEN WRIST TAKES RINS OUT OF THE GP OF THE AMERICAS

Team SUZUKI ECSTAR’s rider Alex Rins sustained a crash this morning during Americas GP Free practice 3 session, that caused a fracture to his left arm. Rins was in his first lap of a new run when he incurred in a high-side with his GSX-RR at corner 19. For this reason he will not be able to take the start at tomorrow’s race.

Right after the crash Rins was transferred to the medical center for medical controls and the X-rays indicated a “radius and ulnar dislocated fracture of the left wrist”. Rins is now being transported to the University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin for further medical checks, where the fracture will be stabilized in order to allow him to fly back to Spain and undergo further medical treatments, probably a surgery.

Further updates will be released as soon as available.

The whole Team SUZUKI ECSTAR wishes Alex a quick recovery.

More, from another press release issued by Team Suzuki ECSTAR:

Following this morning´s accident when Alex Rins broke his wrist, he underwent further medical treatments at the University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin. They aimed to stabilize his fracture before transferring him to his hometown in Spain.

At his arrival at the University Medical Center Brackenridge, Rins was evaluated both by the orthopaedic and trauma surgery team and they confirmed a displaced fracture to his left wrist. The team led by Dr. Austin Hill, Orthopedic Traumatologist at the University Medical Center Brackenridge, took him to the operating room and “set his broken wrist and temporarily fixed it with pins. After that he will be able to be flown back home to Spain, and once the swelling is decreased he will be able to undergo his definitive surgery. Everything went very well, he is comfortable and he will likely leave the hospital today”.

Further medical updates will be issued if available.
