More, from a press release issued by Helicraft Racing:

A good feeling for America

New Zealand race team Helicraft Racing and Australlian rider Alex Phillis can’t get enough of America.

“We just can’t wait to get back for Sonoma next month,” team owner Rod Price said after the MotoAmerica race debut of their MV Agusta F3 675 at Laguna Seca.

Phillis scored 13th overall and fifth in the Supersport class.

“We knew it would be different. We knew it would be tough. It was all of those things and more, but we’re hooked on MotoAmerica,” Price said.

It was probably the hardest weekend for Phillis and the team since Helicraft Racing was formed three years ago, he said.

“It was like going back three years. We had no set-up notes, no race notes, and there’s nothing like Laguna anywhere else in the world.

“As well, we were on Dunlops for the first time and had a new MA-spec engine from Reparto Corse.”

Price knew it was never going to be easy, but that has spurred on the team.

“We’re definitely coming back from Sonoma and would love to do the remaining rounds of the MotoAmerica series.

“It is such a different challenge to anything we’ve done.

“I know there is so much more we can do with the MV Agusta in America.

“We’re really keen, but it will come down to finding a budget.”

Price was full of praise for Phillis, son of Kawasaki World Superbike legend Robbie.

“It was a big ask given such limited track time. We didn’t quite get the front-end feel he wanted, but we’re close.

“I know he’s a little disappointed because we had a target in mind this weekend, but we can now carry some good knowledge into Sonoma.”

He had special thanks for the efforts of mechanics David Cullen, Phil Purdue and Clint Simpson: “They’ve well and truly earned their keep.”

Price was also grateful for the help of the factory MV team, Reparto Corse.

“We weren’t expecting too much, to be honest.

“Afterall, we’re just a little team from the bottom of the world, but they exceeded our all expectations in their level of support and interest.

“I really can’t thank them enough.

“And thanks, too, to Motul US for believing in us.

“Right now, we just want to keep this US momentum going, so if there’s anyone who wants to get involved, please get in contact.”
