DUBLIN, Ohio The top-flight AMA Superbike riders will once again return to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, August 3-5 for the Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire and the Wiseco Superbike 100 Doubleheader. The AMA Superbike Championship Series will compete on the 2.4-mile, 15-turn Lexington, Ohio road course for top honors in one of the Wiseco Superbike 100 Doubleheader races featured on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. “We’re pleased to join the American Motorcyclist Association in bringing the AMA Superbike Championship Series back to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the 25th consecutive year,” said Michelle Trueman Gajoch, president of TrueSports, Inc., owner and operator of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. “It’s a track record we are very proud of, and we appreciate the part that American Honda Motor Co. Inc., Dunlop Tire, Wiseco, Budweiser and our many other corporate sponsors continue to play in making it possible.” “It’s exciting to note that AMA Superbike Championship racing has been part of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course’s history for 25 years,” said AMA Road Race Director, Keith Kizer. “Mid-Ohio has consistently brought in some of the most enthusiastic crowds in our series and we look forward to another great edition of the Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire this year.” Rounds 13 and 14 of the AMA Superbike Championship Series presented by Parts Unlimited will be complemented for the seventeenth year by the NationwideÃ’ Dealer Ride to Mid-Ohio. 120 dealers from eight states will be represented by over 1,200 motorcyclists who will get their shot at traversing the Mid-Ohio circuit on Sunday. Additionally, for the first time, two AMA District 12 amateur motocross events will commence on Friday and Saturday afternoon at Mid-Ohio Motocross Park presented by Toyota Trucks. The Superbike spectators will be the largest crowd these amateur motocross riders have ever seen. Weekend support races will include AMA Supersport, Superstock and Formula Xtreme presented by Budweiser. AMA District 12 motocross will also take place on Friday and Saturday afternoon at Mid-Ohio Motocross Park presented by Toyota Trucks. A comprehensive motorsports facility, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course features a permanent road-racing circuit with two primary configurations: a 2.4-mile, 15-turn, and a 2.25-mile, 13-turn circuit. The park-like, 330-acre complex in Lexington, Ohio also features an amateur motocross venue. Located 60 miles north of Columbus and 75 miles south of Cleveland near Mansfield, the track has been called the most competitive in the U.S. and annually hosts a diversity of locally, regionally and nationally sanctioned racing events for amateur, club and professional riders and drivers. Founded in 1981 and headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, TrueSports, Incorporated is a privately held motorsports entertainment enterprise. The company owns and operates Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and The Mid-Ohio School, and promotes a wide variety of motor racing, driver instruction, corporate, and family entertainment events throughout the year. More, from another press release issued by Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course: TWO-WHEEL MADNESS BACK AT MID-OHIO AS SUPERBIKE RIDERS ARRIVE FOR THE HONDA SUPER CYCLE WEEKEND PRESENTED BY DUNLOP TIRE DUBLIN, Ohio Rounding out a three-weekend-in-a-row stint at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the AMA Superbike Championship Series will be visiting the Lexington, Ohio road course for the 25th consecutive season, competing in the Wiseco Superbike 100 Doubleheader during the Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire, August 3-5. The hunt for the AMA Superbike Championship is in full swing, as defending champion and Texas native Ben Spies looks to continue his stunning mid-season surge by again sweeping the Wiseco Superbike 100 Doubleheader at Mid-Ohio. Valiantly trying to prevent a repeat crown is Spies’ Yoshimura Suzuki teammate and all-time winningest AMA Superbike rider Mat Mladin. Mladin, who has tasted victory six times in 2007, sits in second place, 24-points back from leader Spies. Spies has also six wins to his credit this season, as the Yoshimura young gun will look for his fifth-straight win during the Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire. “I’m looking forward to the race at Mid-Ohio. We won both races there last year and it doesn’t hurt that we’re coming off of Laguna Seca, where we got the pole position and won the race,” said Ben Spies. “The Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 has been working well right off the truck, though we’ve had to make a few changes here and there to help us find a little more time. Mat’s riding great and, right now, he and I are running at the same pace. We had a good test at Mid-Ohio earlier this year and I’m comfortable with the track. I just have to get a good start and then put my Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 out front early.” While Spies and Mladin are locked in one of the greatest rivalries in AMA Superbike history, Honda will have vast experience at Mid-Ohio in their stable with Miguel Duhamel and Jake Zemke, both of whom will seek to close the gap on the two Suzuki front-runners. Duhamel is second on the all-time AMA Superbike win list and is aiming to come out strong at Mid-Ohio, a track where he’s seen success in the past. With a win worth 36 points and two rounds at Mid-Ohio, plenty could change in the championship chase this weekend.
