CCS Florida – Homestead-Miami Speedway

December 6, 2015

Stefano Mesa won six of his eight races at Homestead-Miami Speedway during the CCS Florida season finale and wrapped up the 2015 season as the number one Expert Overall Points winner for a second year in a row.

Mesa started the weekend with a 690-point lead over Greg Melka and had the Overall Points Championship wrapped up before the event began. Melka maintained his position and finished second overall at the end of the double points season finale with two wins, three seconds and one third-place finish.

“I don’t even know where to start,” exclaimed Mesa. “What a year! My hat’s off to West Side (Performance) and Dunlop tires for being behind me all year, backing me up, and Thermosman for always being on point, always putting me on top. Hopefully, next year we can be up here. The CCS people, you guys do a great job. Hopefully we can keep racing and racing. My hat’s off to everybody. Thank you, everybody!”

Mesa won the Expert GTU, Unlimited Supersport, Middleweight Supersport, Heavyweight Supersport, Middleweight Superbike, and Unlimited Grand Prix classes. He finished second in GTO and Unlimited Superbike. Mesa got off to a slow start early in the day on his West Side Performance Suzuki GSX-R1000, battling with early race leader Armando Ferrer, Bruno Silva and Sean Dwyer in the GTO race. Mesa was able to pass Ferrer and claim the lead about halfway through the race, but Ferrer was determined to put his RacersPrice.com Kawasaki ZX-10R on the podium and reclaimed the top spot in the final laps of the race and took the checkered flag first.

On board his Yamaha YZF-R6, Mesa was had stepped up his pace and was out front early in the GTU race after passing holeshot winner Greg Melka, taking over the lead, and running on to his first victory of the day. Mesa was out front from the start of the last race of the day, Unlimited Grand Prix, back on board the Suzuki GSX-R1000 and led the race from start to finish to claim his sixth and final win of the day.

On the podium, Mesa stated, “First of all, this win goes to Michael Corbino, my man, passed away last week. I hope he’s in a better place, racing in the clouds.” Commenting on his final victory, he continued, “I’ve been slow all day. This was not me. On the R6, I was fast, but not on the big bike. And, I just kind of put my head down. Armandito [Ferrer] was on the gas all day. My hat’s off to him.” Mesa is also supported by Motonation, Sidi, Shoei, Vortex, and Galfer.

Ferrer won the GTO and Unlimited Superbike classes, finishing ahead of Mesa, and just behind him in the Unlimited Supersport race. After the race, Ferrer thanked his sponsors, Dunlop Tires, RacersPrice.com, Thermosman, Moto Fairings, and Precision Performance.

Melka won the Heavyweight Superbike and Middleweight Grand Prix races, back-to-back on his Michelin-shod Yamaha YZF-R6. He finished second in GTU, Middleweight Supersport, and Middleweight Superbike, and third in Heavyweight Supersport. Melka is also supported by EBC Brakes, Ducati Depot, Silkolene and Engine Ice.

Mark Rhoades wrapped up his season as the Amateur Overall Points leader for the CCS Florida region as well as Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Mid-West regions. His four first-place victories during the season finale event brought his total wins for the 2015 season to 107. Rhoades won the Unlimited Supersport, Middleweight Supersport, Heavyweight Superbike, and Middleweight Grand Prix races on his Precision Wheel Repair-backed, Farrell Performance-built Kawasaki ZX-6R. Rhoades finished second in Heavyweight Supersport and Middleweight Superbike, and third in the GTU race. Rhoades is also sponsored by Vortex, VP Fuels, and Vanson Leathers.
