Safety First Racing is proud to announce the addition of Tony “The Tiger” Meiring to their rider lineup alongside Chris “Opie” Caylor for the 2006 season. Meiring will be piloting the all new, Suzuki GSX-R 600 in the Supersport and Formula Extreme classes during the upcoming season. Meiring, who hails from Tracy, California, began riding motorcycles when he was two years old, dirt track riding by the time he was four and accumulated multiple regional and national championships during his youth. At age fourteen, Meiring began road racing and quickly reached the top level of competition as a factory rider by the age of nineteen. When not racing, Meiring enjoys dirtbike riding and golf. In speaking with team owner, Kevin Hanson, he relayed his enthusiasm of having Meiring on board as a big part of Safety First Racing. “I’m really excited to have Tony as part of our family. Every time I speak to him it’s obvious that he genuinely just wants to race motorcycles and believes his best years are ahead him, and he’s super motivated to get started. It’s my job now to supply Tony and Opie with top level equipment and I know with the combination of Jim Rashid and the new GSX-R 600 we can get the job done. I can’t wait to get started!” asserted Hanson. Since embarking on his professional career, Meiring has achieved several AMA podium finishes as well as a 2003 Superstock win at Pikes Peak Raceway. “I’m grateful for the opportunity that Safety First has given me and for them believing in me,” commented Meiring. “I’m really excited to be with a crew that has the motivation and ability to supply really good equipment. Throughout my career, I’m very fortunate to have people who have stuck by me like my great friend, sponsor, Rob Lake, who has really supported me and I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. I really feel welcome and feel like I’ve found a home with Kevin, Jim and Opie at Safety First Racing,” said Meiring. Safety First Racing will kick off the race year at the season opener in March at Daytona Speedway.
