Bo Beresiwsky, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Vice President Facility Operations, to Retire
Beresiwsky made his mark on iconic track during 40-year tenure
MONTEREY, Calif., March 31, 2017 — An unsung hero of the iconic Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca race track and the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) is retiring after 40 years of dedicated service. Bo Beresiwsky, Vice President Facility Operations, leaves his post today.
Beresiwsky’s position included maintaining the entire facility, which also includes the Laguna Seca Recreation Area. Through the years, he and his staff have taken part in major improvements that include extending the track from its original 1.9-mile to current 2.238-mile form and constructing a hospitality pavilion. Recently, he has overseen extensive repairs after the Monterey area experienced one of its rainiest winters in recent memory.
“After 40 years, I think it’s time to have some me-time with my family,” said Beresiwsky. “Everybody working here is my SCRAMP family, and I have my home family. For 40 years, I have probably spent more time here than I have with my family. Now it’s time to give back, especially to my wife [Chris].”
Beresiwsky moved to California from Upstate New York in the 1970s, and he put his experience working with steel to good use in a part-time position at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca when he began repairing guardrails on Oct. 17, 1977. The two-week job lead to three years of temporary employment, a full-time position, and, eventually, the top rung of the facility operations department.
Beresiwsky looks back fondly on his 40 years at the iconic circuit. The low-key individual often defers any praise to the volunteers who have kept Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca running for 60 years.
“The most important thing I’m taking from this place is the volunteerism and the people coming in to do everything they do,” added Beresiwsky, who also spent 17 years volunteering at the AT&T Golf Tournament in nearby Pebble Beach. “My highest respect goes to the volunteers. These are the people who put in the time and the effort because of what they believe in. Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to survive. It makes you leave feeling really good about yourself that you’re involved and to see all these people who are so dedicated.”
“Through his hard work and dedication over 40 years, Bo has left an immeasurable mark on the facility and the people he worked with,” said Gill Campbell, CEO and general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “We are going to miss him dearly. All of us at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and SCRAMP thank him for his years of service and wish Bo and his family well during his retirement.”
