Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot Returns to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

All proceeds benefit the Food Bank for Monterey County

MONTEREY, Calif. – Families can get a healthy, satisfying start to their Thanksgiving Day feasts by participating in the fourth annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot to benefit the Food Bank for Monterey County at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Hosted by the Monterey County Parks Department and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, visitors who make a $10 cash or check donation can enjoy a run, jog or walk at their own pace on the 2.238-mile race circuit from 7 – 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24.

The Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot attracts local residents, as well as visitors vacationing on the Central Coast. In the past, runners and walkers from as far away as Connecticut, England, Japan and Slovenia have taken the opportunity to experience the facility that is normally reserved for two- and four-wheel racing enthusiasts.

Canned and non-perishable food donations will also be accepted. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the Food Bank for Monterey County, which is the area’s largest provider of emergency supplemental food. The food bank collects, stores and redistributes food to individuals, as well as non-profit agencies that serve the aged, ill and needy.

“Last year, $3,075 and more than 200 pounds of canned and nonperishable food was raised that enabled the Food Bank to purchase more than $15,000 worth of food for families in need,” said Gill Campbell, CEO/General Manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “Our staff, and race and events committee directors of the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula, volunteer their time to organize this event and it is gratifying to know that donations are being raised for a wonderful local organization.”
