Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Geoff May has withdrawn his entry from the AMA Superbike race at Daytona International Speedway to concentrate his efforts toward the 65th Daytona 200 by Honda. May originally planned to race in Supersport, on his GSX-R600, and in Superstock and Superbike, on his GSX-R1000 Superstock bike. The crash and weekend-ending injury of May’s teammate Michael Barnes, however, led to May dropping the Superbike race in favor of riding Barnes’ GSX-R600 Formula Xtreme bike in the Daytona 200. “This is a great opportunity for me, but I hate to have it happen under these circumstances,” May told Roadracingworld.com. “Hopefully, I can represent Barney, Team M4 EMGO Suzuki and all of my sponsors well in the 200. “I think the race will be fun. I enjoy doing the 200. I ran it on my Superbike in 2003 and 2004. Unfortunately, I had problems in both races. One time, I was fifth and on the lead lap at the halfway point when I had a tire problem that forced an unexpected pit stop.” May still intends to race in Supersport and Superstock Thursday afternoon. He has qualified on the front row for each of the races.
