Graham Rahal victorious at the 2013 Bridgestone Golf Performance Challenge Friday 16 August 2013 Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, Indianapolis, USA After a successful debut event last year, Bridgestone Motorsport held the second Bridgestone Golf Performance Challenge yesterday (Thursday 15 August) at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Stepping out on to the fairway to defend his title, NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Colin Edwards was joined by GO&FUN Honda Gresini Racing’s Alvaro Bautista, three-time 500cc motorcycle World Champion Kenny Roberts and former Grand Prix star and Riders for Health co-founder, Randy Mamola. Representing four-wheels were IndyCar’s Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal and KV Racing Technology’s Simona de Silvestro, and 2013 Indy500 newcomer and GP3 star, Conor Daly, to complete the all-star line-up. Carmelo Ezpeleta (CEO, Dorna) and Hiroshi Yamada (Manager, Bridgestone Motorsport Department), national and international media also took part in the pre-race weekend golf event, in support of the official charity of MotoGP, Riders for Health. Graham Rahal showed great skill on the course to lead his team comprising Randy Mamola, WRTV-6 journalist Dave Furst and Bridgestone Golf representative Aivars Erkmanis to victory, winning the three-hole contest by the narrowest of margins. The winning team’s top scorer, Rahal and fellow team mate, two-wheeled racer Mamola, both took home the grand prize of a set of Bridgestone Golf clubs. The other competing athletes were each awarded a Bridgestone Golf ‘Driver’ club. The winner of the ‘Closest to the Pin’ challenge was Indianapolis Star journalist, Curt Cavin, who won a Bridgestone Golf club of his choice, while Dorna CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta, was also awarded a Bridgestone Golf ‘Driver’ club after winning the putting contest. Graham Rahal, 2013 Bridgestone Golf Performance Challenge winner “I really enjoyed myself today; getting to meet Randy Mamola, trying out some new Bridgestone Golf gear, and most of all, having a lot of fun. It was a great event with other folks that carry the passion of motorsports, like we do.” Hiroshi Yamada – Manager, Bridgestone Motorsport Department “Congratulations to Graham for winning the second Bridgestone Golf Performance Challenge. It was a real pleasure to play under brilliant blue Indiana skies at what is an excellent golf course! Today’s event was particularly special because MotoGP and IndyCar stars joined forces in a year that commemorates the 25th Anniversary of Bridgestone and Firestone coming together. It makes me proud to see so many star athletes from the world of two and four-wheels, including Kenny Roberts at a MotoGP event enjoying a day on the course using Bridgestone Golf equipment, while also helping to promote the excellent work that Riders for Health do. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event and special thanks to Bridgestone Americas and Bridgestone Golf for their support.”
