Karl Lowry took his Graves Motorsports Yamaha YZF-R6 to another win in the Toyota Gold Cup Unlimited Formula One race in Willow Springs Motorcycle Club competition on Sunday.

The big, fast 2.5-mile main track baked under the July desert sun, with temperatures reaching 105 degrees, and under those physically demanding conditions, Lowry chose the easier-to-handle R6 and left his Yamaha YZF-R1 in the pits.

It was the second time this season Lowry has taken the 600 to the grid against the liter bikes. And it was the second time this season that it was an excellent call.

Lowry led from flag to flag in the 12-lap, 30-mile race, set the fastest lap of the race at a 1:22.162, and led across the line by nearly seven seconds.

Behind him, Reno Karimian and Chris Duran continued their long-standing personal duel, with Karimian and his Suzuki GSX-R1000 taking second over Duran’s YZF-R1 by 0.025 seconds.

Lowry did take the R1 onto the track, and did so successfully, winning the Open Superbike and Open Modified Production races, while taking the R6 to the win in 600cc Modified Production.
