Kenny Noyes to Replace David Checa in Spanish World Supersport Round Barcelona-based American Kenny Noyes has gotten the call from Yamaha France to replace Spaniard David Checa on the GMT94 World Supersport team at the up-coming round of the World Championship top be held at Valencia on April 21-23. Checa, younger brother of MotoGP Yamaha rider Carlos Checa, broke his wrist in preseason testing and was replaced at Losair (Qatar) and Phillip Island (Australia) by Anthony Gobert who was 12th in Qatar and retired with handling problems when running sixth in Australia. Checa is now recovered but is committed to riding in the 24 Hours of Le Mans scheduled for the same weekend as the Spanish World Superbike round. Noyes, who rides for Folch Yamaha in the Spanish 1000cc Formula Extreme Championship, was penciled in as Checa’s replacement for Valencia even before David’s injury. “After I finished second in the World Endurance round last year at Albacete with the Folch R1, Yamaha France put me on their list of replacement riders,” said Kenny. “I thought they would probably stick with Anthony to replace David at Valencia as well, but I’m really glad to get the chance to ride a World round. I haven’t raced a 600 since 2001 so it will be a challenge to make the adjustment, but I am looking forward to it.” Kenny (26), who was born in Spain and lived there until he was 14, won the Formula USA Pro Singles National Dirt Track Series after a season long-battle with J.R. Schnabel and Bryan Smith in 2000 before returning to Spain to start a roadracing career. After five seasons in Spain he has won two minor titles (Superseries/Superstock in 2003 and the National Endurance Cup in 2005) and is now considered one of the top contenders in Spain’s top National series, the Buckler’s 1000cc Formula Extreme Championship.
