BMW Motorrad is Featured Marque for August event TACOMA, Wash. (May 13, 2013) – The Meet at ACM – Vintage Motorcycle Festival has released the list of classes for the August 24-25, 2013 motorcycle event in Tacoma, Wash., which is expected to have more than 300 vintage motorcycles on display. On Saturday, Aug. 24, each class will include up to 15 motorcycles, with judges awarding trophies for first, second and third prize in each category. A Best of Show winner will be selected from those motorcycles that are named Best in Class. Last year’s Best of Show winner, a 1963 Norton Atlas owned by Ron Rumbolz of Fife, Wash., is now on display at the museum. “The judges have to be very meticulous to select one motorcycle over another,” said Scot Keller, chief marketing and communications officer for ACM. “It’s obvious that the owners of these motorcycles have put many, many hours into restoring and maintaining them in show condition – they are moving pieces of art.” For the 2013 event, there is a class dedicated to BMW, which will be the event’s ‘Featured Marque.” The decision to spotlight the Munich-based motorcycle manufacturer coincides with the 90th anniversary of BMW Motorrad. The list of classes for the Meet at ACM – Vintage Motorcycle Festival: • Vintage American • Vintage British • Vintage German • Vintage Italian • Vintage Japanese • Vintage BMW • Vintage Norton • Vintage Triumph • Vintage Competition – Road Race • Vintage Motocross/Off Road • Custom Bobber/chopper • Café racer • Scooter and Powered Bike • Best Unrestored (one trophy) • Rat Bike (one trophy) Special trophies will also be awarded, including the ACM “President’s Award,” five “Judges’ Choice” trophies and one prize for the “Best Dealer Display.” The Meet at ACM – Vintage Motorcycle Festival is one of the annual signature events at the 165,000 square-foot Tacoma museum. Along with the listed classes, other motorcycles from famous makers will include Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Indian and Triumph, plus several European marques will be on display. The festival’s main event on Saturday, Aug. 24 will include the judging and awards plus a swap meet, trials motorcycle demonstrations, precision riding by the Seattle Cossacks motorcycle acrobatics team, speed tuning panel discussions and music. A scenic motorcycle ride launching from ACM’s plaza and traveling along Pacific Northwest roads is on tap for Sunday. The inaugural event in 2012 attracted more than 200 motorcycles and 2,000 enthusiasts to ACM’s Haub Family Field. “The response to last year’s show beat all our expectations, and we anticipate even better things this time around,” said Event Chairman Burt Richmond.
