Jay Newton Awarded CMRA #1 Plate, Hints At 2019 Plans

After wrapping up the 2018 MotoAmerica Liqui Moly Jr. Cup Series 3rd overall, Newton put an exclamation point on his 2018 CMRA season. He ended up with seven class championships via 55 race wins, seven second-place finishes, and a single third while using three different motorcycles. He did not finish off the podium in any race he started and set four Ultra Lightweight GP class track records on his way to claiming the CMRA overall #1 plate.

Following his acceptance speech at the CMRA awards banquet January 5th in Waco, Texas, Newton hinted at his 2019 plans. He said, “Since MonkeyMoto has decided to depart the MotoAmerica paddock for 2019, I currently do not have a road racing ride for this year. I have tried to work something out with a few teams, but nothing materialized. I have not ruled out road racing if something comes up, but I am currently in talks with some backers to run an American Flat Track Singles program and should have something inked within a couple weeks. Then crunch time begins to get everything ready for Daytona! We have some great new sponsors coming on board for 2019, and I am really excited about the possibilities!”

Look for more news to come out soon.
