Alton, VA – Again weather in the 70’s met competitors for the final day of the Paul Farrell Memorial weekend here at Virginia International Raceway. USGPRU did not disappoint with good racing in each class. The REV’IT! MD 250 class was close from start to end with all riders finishing within just a few feet of each other at the checkered flag. Gavin Herrin and Alex Wisdom exchanged the lead through the race with Anthony Mazziotto hot on their heals. At the line it was Wisdom with the win and Mazziotto second. In the 250GP the crowd on hand actually had a scare as the pack finished lap one. On the front straight at the stripe, Alex Wisdom’s motor began to seize slowing his MD250 right in front of Stuart Aitken-Cade. As Aitken-Cade made the pass Wisdom’s motor went into full lock tossing the young rider to the pavement. Wisdom was attended to immediately and came to the podium to greet the other riders after the race with leathers the worse for wear, but in good spirits. Adrian Jasso’s Yamaha led the race from a good start. He was threatened every lap by Stewart Aitken-Cade aboard a Honda 125. Aitken-Cade tried everything to maintain his infield advantage, but could not stay out in front. In the end Aitken-Cade did not have the grunt needed on the final straight to pull off a pass. Jasso has had a rough start to the season and felt triumphant with this win, his second podium in as many rounds having finished second at Summit Point. Jasso’s best lap was a 1:40.130 turned on the final lap of the race. In Moto 3 Gavin Herrin’s Yamaha started from the second row and led lap one. But it was Casey Tobolewski with the serious face all weekend. After being stymied at Summit Point Tobolewski was all business at VIR and he wasted no time in using an excellent start to take the lead from Herrin on lap two. Tobolewski went on a tear from that point gapping the field by as much as four seconds. Herrin would stay in the top five until lap seven when he and sixth place rider Adrian Jasso both went out. Palmer Kling has dominated Moto 3 in early rounds and no less was expected today as he sat on the pole, but on lap five Kling had slipped from third to sixth and came by the flag stand with his hand in the air, out of the race with a mechanical failure. After six laps David Celento and Anthony Mazziotto had slipped back from the lead group. Aitken-Cade was steady and Alex Wisdom was on a charge. Although Wisdom was gaining a second a lap on Tobolewski as the final laps drew down, in the end he was a mere 20 feet behind at the finish. On the podium Tobolewski was clearly gratified with the win. REV’IT!
