He finished 15th overall in the Lucas Oil Outdoor Motocross season in the 250 class despite missing five race weekends and 10 moto’s. Over the course of the season the internet video series documented the life of a true privateer as they made the trek across the U.S. and competed at the top level. Derek scored points in the majority of the races and will have the national number 63 for 2013. Leading up to winning the AMA Horizon Award he also has won the AMA Youth Road Race Rider of the Year award and was the Moto 3 National Champion last year on a 125. He’s been racing since he was 4 years old and started out racing dirt track where he won multiple championships. This year was his first year on a 600 and he’s adapted to the big bike very well.
