Fabrizio Pirovano used his considerable race experience and circuit knowledge and showed the youngsters the way round Monza today, taking pole position by almost a second for round two of the Suzuki GSX-R Cup tomorrow. The former World Superbike and Supersport star blitzed his Suzuki GSX-R750 round the 5.793 kilometre track in 1:54.743. Second was Belgian Xavier Simeon ahead of German Philipp Hafeneger and Frenchman Antony Delhalle. Fabrizio Pirovano – 1st, 1:54.743: “I really enjoyed myself today and it’s so much fun racing again – especially at Monza. It’s a very special place and I really want to win the race tomorrow. It’s so important for me here. The bike was perfect today and everything went ok, though there was a very small problem with my rear shock when I accelerated out of the turns. But it wasn’t bad enough to slow me too much and now I’m looking forward to the race tomorrow and having more fun.” Final GSX-R Cup Qualifying: 1 Pirovano 1:54.743, 2 Simeon 1:55.625, , 3 Hafeneger 1:55.731, 4 Delhalle 1:56.470, 5 Van der Marel 1:56.5390, 6 Junod 1:56.799.
