TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (May 22, 2008) No sooner did the last transporter roll out of Miller Motorsports Park this past Monday morning following the Larry H. Miller Dealerships Utah Grand Prix presented by The Grand and Little America Hotels than work crews sprung into action to prepare the facility for the HANNspree Superbike World Championship® StriVectin-SD® USA Round and Honda Summit of Speed AMA Superbike Championship weekend, scheduled for May 29 June 1. A vast amount of work has to be done in preparation for the arrival of the motorcycle teams, including replacing sponsor signage, revamping the electrical system in the GP Garages to accommodate European-standard 220-volt outputs, improving the wireless Internet connectivity, preparing temporary office spaces for the HANNspree Superbike World Championship® series staff, erecting various tents for food service, vendors and other users, organizing a press conference with Governor Jon Huntsman Jr. and a fan party at the Gallivan Center in Salt Lake City, adding additional paid and volunteer staffing and preparing for the biggest onslaught of visitors in the track’s short history. This work is in addition to the upgrades that have already been made to the track, including an extended pit road, larger gravel traps, enlarged paved runoff area and expanded curbing, all of which was done over the winter at a cost of nearly a million dollars. The motorcycles and equipment for the HANNspree Superbike World Championship® teams will begin arriving this week, all of which having been shipped via air freight in special containers to Salt Lake International Airport. The team members and series staff will begin arriving on Monday and, once onsite, will begin unpacking containers, setting up garages, preparing motorcycles and getting down to the business of putting on a World Championship event. “This has been a massive undertaking,” said Miller Motorsports Park CEO/General Manager Alan Wilson. “This event is an order of magnitude well above anything that we have ever attempted, and we have been preparing for it since last fall. It is very prestigious for Miller Motorsports Park to host such a significant racing series, and our staff has gone all-out to ensure that we will be excellent hosts to the teams, riders, fans and sponsors, and that we present the best possible image to the fans around the world who will be watching on television.” The HANNspree Superbike World Championship® event will be broadcast live on 95 networks to 173 countries around the world and an estimated viewing audience of 120 million. By comparison, NASCAR’s Daytona 500 is viewed by approximately 19 million. In addition to the HANNspree Superbike World Championship®, the StriVectin-SD® USA Round will also include the Honda Summit of Speed for the AMA Superbike Championship, which is comprised of four separate series: the AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited, the AMA Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei, the AMA Formula Xtreme Series and the AMA Superstock Championship presented by Dynojet. The event will comprise four days of on-track action starting on Thursday, May 29, plus a myriad of off-track entertainment for fans including stunt bikes, freestyle motocross exhibitions, live bands, helicopter rides and sky diving. Fans are also invited to the Zantrex-3 Insta-Shot Bike Bash at Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake City at 6:00 pm on May 29, featuring live music from the band “Chevelle,” freestyle motocross and trials-riding exhibitions, plus an autograph session with many of the top World Superbike and AMA Superbike riders.
