Michael Morgan (Suz GSX-R600), no time recorded More, from a press release issued by LTD Racing: IN THE HUNT: NASH SHOWS SPEED AT MID-OHIO, SIXTH AND NINTH ON THE FIRST DAY Lexington, OH (July 13, 2012_ LTD Racing’s Huntley Nash was quick during the opening day of the AMA Pro Mid-Ohio weekend, posting two top ten results in AMA Pro Racing’s Daytona SportBike class on Friday. The 20-year old showed his form in what has been a season of building momentum for the Georgian. He was sixth in the opening practice and ultimately qualified ninth despite a tipover with five minutes to go in the qualifying session. Nash was unhurt. His best time of 1:30.044 was less than a second off pole position and proved he has the speed to run up front. “It’s gone well so far,” said Nash. “We were able to post a good time in the first session and I was pushing pretty good and lost the front at the end of qualifying, nothing major. We’ve made some changes to the front and I think we can run up in the lead group, which is the goal. The pavement surface is slippery here and you have to ride it differently. That’s the real challenge here but so far I’ve handled it pretty well and I am going faster than I have ever gone around here before.” Nash’s goal entering the year was to run with the lead pack and learn the nuances of racing with the DSB leaders in 2012. After forward progress in the early races, Nash ran up front at Road America in both race one and race two in what was his best weekend yet in the class. Barber was a tough round for three-time SuperSport winner Nash but he was eager to get another shot at racing, even if it was at one of his toughest tracks. “Huntley’s going great,” said LTD Racing’s Jon Schiereck. “We’re off to a good start to the weekend. We think he’d probably be up a little higher if he hadn’t fallen at the end because he was on a fast lap. We’ll try to keep it up and improve the bike as the weekend continues.” Saturday morning will feature final qualifying and race one in the afternoon, followed by the second race of the weekend on Sunday. More, from a press release issued by Team Hammer: WESTBY SECOND IN MID-OHIO FRIDAY QUALIFYING M4 Broaster Chicken Suzuki’s Dane Westby lived up to the lofty expectations that greeted him at Mid-Ohio on Friday, provisionally qualifying second fastest for the weekend’s AMA Pro Daytona SportBike doubleheader. Westby established himself as a solid pre-race favorite in Ohio due to both his recent on-track exploits and his memorable outing at the undulating circuit one year ago. The Oklahoman registered his maiden SportBike victory at Mid-Ohio in 2011 with a stirring come-from-behind effort and is gunning for his first victory of the 2012 season this weekend. He’s been close, notching up four podiums already this season, including back-to-back runner-up results at Barber Motorsports Park to lead into this weekend. Westby opened the day with a second-ranked placement in the free practice at 1:30.855, and then backed that up by running second in qualifying at 1:29.172. “We had a really good day, obviously,” Westby said. “I made sure I was first out of the pits for practice and qualifying. I wanted to be first on the track, the fastest one out there, set down some laps, slay the dragon, and get out of there. “The Superbike guys laid down some rubber. I heard the track was bad but when I got out there it was all right. I was able to go for it. I was pretty comfortable doing the times. I knew the times would be in the ’29s for qualifying so I just tried to go out and hammer as good as I could. “We’ll get them tomorrow. The bike is working really well. We just had to make a few slight changes but everything is going really good.” Meanwhile, Suzuki SportbikeTrackGear.com’s Elena Myers earned a place on the provisional SuperSport third row. Myers posted a 1:32.511 on Friday and will look to climb her way up the order on Saturday. Similarly, M4 Broaster Chicken Suzuki’s Chris Ulrich and Team Venezuela’s Robertino Pietri are well poised to improve. Ulrich was 14th in Friday’s first Superbike qualifying session at 1:28.494. Pietri, meanwhile, suffered a late crash that brought out a red flag and concluded the day’s QP. The Venezuelan ended the day ranked 16th at 1:29.081. On Saturday Westby, Myers, Ulrich, Pietri will claim their final grid positions and go racing in the afternoon. In 2012, Team Hammer, Inc. is competing in its 32nd consecutive racing season and marks its sixth year of offering technical and logistical support through its Contract Services Department. Riders on Team Hammer-prepared racebikes have earned 52 AMA Pro National race wins; 119 AMA Pro National podium finishes; 4 AMA Pro Championships; 133 Overall National Endurance race wins; 13 National Endurance Championships and assorted other race wins and titles.
