Graves Motorsports Yamaha’s Jason DiSalvo took his 11th consecutive AMA Superstock pole position Saturday at California Speedway, in Fontana, California. Riding his YZF-R1 LE with a rear Dunlop qualifying tire, DiSalvo carved the 2.3-mile, 21-turn infield road course in 1:24.028, beating his own lap record of 1:24.688 from 2005. The fastest qualifier until DiSalvo’s late quick lap, defending AMA Superstock Champion Aaron Yates, ended up second-fastest with a time of 1:24.470 on his Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000. The surprise of the session was the third-fastest lap of young Jake Holden, the junior member of the three-rider Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki team. Holden, who said he is starting to get used to riding on Dunlop tires and working with his Crew Chief James Compton, turned a lap of 1:24.874 with help from his Dunlop qualifying tire. The final spot on the front row was taken by DiSalvo’s teammate Jamie Hacking, who, in spite of an injury-free lowside crash on his second of two Dunlop qualifying tires, turned a fourth-fastest 1:25.091. Row two starters for Sunday’s 17-lap Superstock final will be: Attack Kawasaki’s Damon Buckmaster (1:25.319), Holden’s teammate Steve Rapp (1:25.748), Parts Unlimited PJ1 Erion Honda’s Aaron Gobert (1:25.937) and Eric Bostrom (1:26.035), the third Graves Motorsports Yamaha rider.
