WSMC – Classic Series – November

Jason Curtis held off a strong challenge by Karl Lowry and AMA Pro star Steve Rapp to win the Toyota Cup Unlimited Formula 1 race at Willow Springs International Raceway this weekend.

Riding his Dunlop-shod, No Limit Motorsports Suzuki GSX-R1000, Curtis crossed the line 0.091-second ahead of Lowry’s Graves Yamaha YZF-R1 on Dunlops in the feature race of the day.

For the first half of the 12-lap race, Lowry led as Rapp, this year’s Daytona 200 winner, hounded them on his Pirelli-shod Attack Kawasaki ZX-6R. Rapp could make up multiple bikelengths on the tighter sections of the course, but would barely be able to hang onto the draft down Willow’s long straights.

Still, Rapp turned the fastest lap of the race, a 1:21.220, and was in the hunt until his engine let go in a cloud of smoke going into Turn One.

Third was Jeff Stern aboard his Proline Fasteners, Dunlop-equipped Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Curtis also won the Open Superbike and Open Superstock races, while Lowry won the 750cc Superstock, Modified Production and Superbike races. Rapp won the 600cc Superstock and Formula Two races, while Andy Palmer won the 550cc Superbike and Formula Twins Lightweight races on his Suzuki SV650, Mark Watts won the Formula 40 Lightweight and RoadracingWorld.com 250cc Grand Prix classes, and Eric Angel took the wins in 500cc Modified Production and 500cc Superstock.
