CMRA congratulates its 2014 Sprint Champions and Brandon Cleland, New Overall Number 1 Plate Holder. The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) honored its 2014 sprint champions at its Annual Awards Banquet, held this past Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Downtown 301 Event Center in Waco, Texas. The CMRA would like to congratulate our competitors, race staff, corner workers, sponsors, and spectators for making 2014 such an exciting season for the Texas-based club. Record-setting entries and fierce competition brought the CMRA to a whole new level.

Brandon Cleland rode his Yamaha YZF-R6 to the Overall Sprint Championship, bringing home the Number One Plate and four individual Sprint Class Championships in B Superstock Expert, C Superstock Expert, C Superbike Expert, and Formula 1.

The evening included other special awards as well. Michael Martin was inducted into the CMRA Hall Of Fame for his contributions to the sport, both on and off the track. John Ulrich was on hand as the keynote speaker for his induction. Fellow CMRA Hall of Famers, Kevin Schwantz and Norm McDonald were also in attendance at the ceremony along with 40 plus members of Martin’s immediate family. Martin rode for Team Hammer for years, and earned his “M4” (Miracle Man Michael Martin) nickname with his impossible come-from-behind save of the team’s 100th overall endurance race win, clinching the team’s 10th Overall Championship, in a WERA National Endurance Series 8-Hour hosted by CMRA on October 8th, 1994 at Texas World Speedway. Martin joins previous CMRA Hall of Fame inductees including: Colin Edwards, Brooks Gremmels, David Hirsch, Ty Howard, Jamie James, Lou Linden, Ronnie Lunsford, Norm and Sam McDonald, Laroy Montgomery, Doug Polen, Kevin Schwantz, Freddie Spencer, Ben Spies, Britt Turkington and the Brothers Family.

The 2014 Claire McMahan Extra Mile Award, which is awarded each year to someone who has gone above and beyond with their support of the CMRA, was presented to Shandra Crawford. Crawford, who joined the CMRA in 2012, has been tireless in her efforts to support and promote the CMRA, including producing the 2013 & 2014 Ladies of CMRA calendar, 2013 & 2014 Awards Banquets, press releases, sponsor development, and updated trophy program.

The Rookie Expert Award went to Britten Geary. Geary received the award for earning the most overall points as a first-year Expert.

A new special award for this year was the “Pullin’ a Joe” award, inspired by and awarded to Dr. Joseph Caruso for his quick thinking and actions at an event which saved a critically injured racer.

The 2015 CMRA season will begin on February 13-15, at MSR Houston, Angleton Texas. Details for the weekend will be announced when finalized. Thank you again to the competitors and sponsors for making this a fantastic season of great racing action and looking forward to seeing you all in February!
