Cleland Takes Four Podiums and the Overall Number One Plate With CMRA At Texas World Speedway

Brandon Cleland took four podiums, giving him the overall number one plate for the 2014 season at CMRA’s sprint event Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas. A second day of chilly morning temperatures and a high of 70 still made for fast lap times on the 2.9 mile course.

Cleland rode his Pirelli-shod Yamaha YZF-R6 to the wins in B Superstock Expert, South Central Race Center – C Superstock Expert, Team Mancuso Powersports SW – C Superbike Expert, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert. Cleland also won the $100 P1 Racing cash purse for riding the first 600 across the finish line during the Formula 1 race.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert race had a 16 bike grid, and as the starting lights went out the race was on as Cleland stretched the legs on his Yamaha YZF-R6 and took the lead. Craig Montgomery riding a Suzuki GSX-R1000 battled with Jeff Wrobel, also mounted on a Suzuki GSX-R1000 for second, while Eric Williams, riding a Yamaha YZF-R6, put the pressure on from fourth. Cleland put his head down, turning a fastest lap of the race on lap 2 with a 1:44.356, and put a two second lead on the field. Montgomery and Wrobel were going at it hammer and tongs, with Wrobel turning a fastest lap of 1:46.177 to Montgomery’s fastest lap of 1:46.508. Williams turned a fastest lap of 1:46.119, and started making his way past both Wrobel and Montgomery. As the final laps wound down, Cleland, stretched his lead to 11.979 seconds over the rest of the field taking the checkers for the win. Williams dispatched both Montgomery and Wrobel, crossing the line in second. Montgomery got Wrobel in a drag race to the line, finishing third, Wrobel finished fourth, and Jay Newton, Eddie Thornton, Peyton Inge, Eric Monus, Joseph Caruso and Bobby Davies rounding out the top 10.

Bringing awareness to finding a cure for Breast Cancer is an important aspect of this race and a donation is made by the CMRA to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each entry in the race.

Daniel Adams was the lightweights standout, as he took home four wins in D Superstock Expert, Formula 2 Expert, D Superbike Expert, and Lightweight Twins Expert with his Suzuki SV650.

Braeden Ortt was the Top Novice with an impressive six wins on his Yamaha YZF-R6 in Road & Track Suspension – Formula 1 Novice, OnRoad OffRoad Suspension – A Superstock Novice, North Texas Superbikes – A Superbike Novice, North Texas Superbikes – B Superbike Novice, Fastline Motorcycle School – C Superbike Novice, and Moto Liberty – C Superstock Novice.
