ASRA Team Challenge Series Virginia International Raceway Alton, VA September 23, 2007 Round 7 Event Review Chucktown Regains Composure, Point Lead at VIR After suffering through a rough outing in round 6 of the ASRA Team Challenge Series at Blackhawk Farms, Chucktown Moto was looking for things to return to a more normal state when they got to their home track of Virginia International Raceway. With their 5th place finish at Blackhawk, Chucktown Moto found themselves tied for the GTO Championship with Moon’s Repsol at 166 points each, and in need of something to help right the ship. Well Kenny Rodriguez and the Chucktown crew found the southern hospitality to their liking and took the victory in the red-flagged shortened event. From the start of the event, Chucktown Moto aboard their Yamaha 1000 showed their determination as the lead from lap 1 to the red flag on lap 14 when the GTL leader Melillimoto-Fowler crashed coming on the pit lane for their first scheduled stop and blocked pit lane with their downed motorcycle. This erased the lead Chucktown had earned and reset the board the the restart. The next 40 laps had Chucktown Moto chasing the Moon’s Repsol Team, captained by Rick Beggs on a Suzuki 1000 and their team mates, Moon’s Super Cycle captained by Calvin Martinez. On lap 53, Chucktown Moto passed the Moons Repsol team and cruised the last ten laps to victory. The win put Chucktown tied for the Overall lead with Moon’s Repsol and the GTO lead by 9 points with just one round remaining at Daytona on October 19. By just starting the race, RNR Cycles clinched it’s second straight GTU Championship for Captain Rick Beggs, so when they crashed on lap 25, the crew just packed up their gear and figured it would be easier to repair the machine at the shop for the Daytona final. That let the Britt Motorsports Team captained by Joel Rogers to cruise uncontested to the GTU win at VIR. The story for GTL was the Mighty Lumina team, captained by Bill Davenport, all they had to do was finish one spot behind the Touring Sport Ducati team of Frank Shockley, Pete Friedland and Brad Phillips and they would lock the championship before the final race. Well it was the Touring Sport Ducati who wrote the story today as they took the lead from the Chicken Racing Team of Eric Wilson and Alexander Shaw on lap 16 and then lead the remaining 47 laps of the contest. Davenports Mighty Lumina Racing could not get around the Chicken Racing Team’s Suzuki 650, so by settling for third, the GTL Championship will be decided between Touring Sport Ducati and Mighty Lumina at Daytona in four weeks. The A&J Recognition Solo Challenge produced the fastest rider of the event, as Ivan Milan from Putnam Valley, New York showed the field the way to the checkered flag. Milan, who trailed Brad Faas before the red flag, put a holeshot move to get in front of Krishna Pribadi and then spent the next 18 laps working his way to the front of the entire field. On lap 42, Milan passed Moons Super Cycle to get his first taste of the overall lead, and then after a brief struggle between the two, Milan took the lead for good on lap 46. Milan was able to build a 16.674 second lead on his way to the victory. Kevin Tate rode past fellow Virginian Travis McNerney to finish third behind Milan and Pribadi. With the win, Milan carries a 4 point lead into the final round a Daytona where he must beat Krishna Pribadi to win his first ASRA Championship. The 8th and final round of the 2007 ASRA Team Challenge Championship will be held on October 19, 2007 in Daytona Beach Florida in conjunction with the 24th Annual Race of Champions The American Sportbike Racing Association LLC is the proud promoter of the ASRA Pro Series, the ASRA Team Challenge Championship and the USA’s largest sportsman motorcycle road racing series, the Championship Cup Series.
