No other rider has had more than a single pole this season. · Pedrosa is the first rider to qualify on pole at four races in his rookie season since Freddie Spencer back in 1982. · If Pedrosa wins he will become the youngest ever rider to take back-to-back victories in the class, a record that is also currently held by Spencer. · Pedrosa’s pole time is the fastest ever lap of Sachsenring by a motorcycle. The top nine riders on the grid have lapped inside Max Biaggi’s previous pole record lap from 2004. · Kenny Roberts, who won this race in 1999, has qualified in his best grid position since taking pole for the Rio GP in 2004. · Nicky Hayden will be starting from the front row for just the second time in 2006, his other being at the Turkish GP. · This is the only circuit at which Hayden finished on the podium in both 2004 and 2005 · For the first time this year all of the riders on the front row are using Michelin tyres. · Loris Capirossi’s only podium at the Sachsenring was in 1999 when he was second in the 250cc race. · Marco Melandri has had three victories in the smaller classes at this circuit, including his debut win on a 250cc machine in 2001. · Sete Gibernau’s second place finish here last year was the last time he stood on the podium. · Valentino Rossi has qualified as the top Yamaha rider in eleventh place on the grid. From the ten previous occasions that Rossi has qualified outside the top ten in the class he has taken four podiums and one victory. · Colin Edwards is starting from his lowest grid position since qualifying 15th for the opening race of the 2005 season at Jerez. 250cc · Jorge Lorenzo is starting from pole for the seventh time in 2006. He has won five times from his previous six pole starts this year. · Yuki Takahashi’s only podium finish so far this season was his victory at Le Mans. · Hector Barbera starts from the front row for the first time since Le Mans. · Roberto Locatelli’s last victory came in the 125cc race at this circuit in 2004 · Locatelli starts from the front row for the third time this year. · Alex de Angelis, who has finished on the podium at the last four races, has failed to qualify for the front row for the first time since the Grand Prix of China. · Series leader Andrea Dovizioso will be starting from his lowest grid position since qualifying eleventh for the opening race of the year at Jerez. 125cc · Alvaro Bautista starts from pole for the fourth time in 2006. · Bautista’s second place at Donington in 2004 was his best ever result before the start of this season. · Bautista’s pole is the fastest ever lap at Donington by a 125cc rider, more than one second faster than the previous best. · The top seventeen riders on the grid have lapped faster than the official lap record set by Bautista in 2004. · Following his victory at Assen, Mika Kallio will be aiming to score back-to-back victories for the first time in his Grand Prix career. · Mattia Pasini has failed to finish the race on his previous two visits to Donington, having crashed on both occasions. · Just three riders have managed to score points at each of the first eight races of the year: team-mates Alvaro Bautista, Hector Faubel and Sergio Gadea. · Bradley Smith’s thirteenth place on the grid is his best ever qualifying result and the best by a British rider in the class since Darren Barton qualified 13th at Donington in 1996. · At Assen Lukas Pesek scored points in three successive races for the first time in his Grand Prix career.
