IBEW Confirmed as TSN Title Sponsor for CSBK 2020

Toronto, ON – August 25, 2020 –  The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers will be the title sponsor for The Sports Network’s (TSN) coverage of the Canadian Superbike Championship for this season.  The National Superbike tour was interrupted by the COVID19 pandemic, and CSBK have conducted four Superbike races in 2020, all won by 13-time-Champ Jordan Szoke of Lynden, ON, on a Canada General Warranty-backed Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninja.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) is the oldest and largest Electrical Workers union in the world, founded November 28, 1891 in St. Louis, Missouri. The first IBEW Local union in Canada was chartered in 1899 in Ottawa, Ontario. The IBEW represents over 775,000 members in North America and just under 70,000 here in Canada.

IBEW Canada is a diverse union that represents workers in Manufacturing, Telecommunications, Utilities, Construction, Maintenance, Motor Shops, Sign Shops, CATV, Radio and Television Broadcasting, Railroads, Shipyards, Pulp and Paper Mills, Mining, Tree Trimming, Health Care, and Government employees.

Previously, the IBEW has sponsored events with the CSBK tour including the first National of 2019 at Shannonville Motorsport Park and the opening round of 2020 at Calabogie Motorsports Park in July.  As well, the IBEW have backed the Start Light system and Countdown Clock in recent years and will continue to do so with CSBK in 2021.

In addition to providing support to title the TSN coverage in 2020, the IBEW logo will also head on-line video coverage of the National road racing tour.  Events broadcast will include the Pro Superbike Feature class and at least one Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike middleweight race.

“The IBEW has been a proud part of the Canadian labor movement for over 100 years,” explains Tom Reid, International Vice President, First District, Canada.  “We have built our union on our commitment to organize and represent workers; our membership and longevity is proof of that commitment.

“Our members work, build, volunteer and play in communities all across Canada and we are proud of what they do,” continued motorcycle enthusiast Reid. “It’s not just Power Lines that keep the lights on, it’s not just Cables that keep the Communications flowing, it is people, hard-working people, our Sisters and Brothers in the IBEW.

“We enjoyed working with the everyone on the CSBK and Pro6 teams at the Calabogie opener and loved the racing action.  Given that spectators were not allowed to attend 2020 events, the video coverage of this season’s action is more important than usual – fans want to see the competition for themselves.”

The CSBK tour uses a large digital Countdown Clock, easily visible from the track and pits, keeping competitors appraised of the timing for each on-track session for the five classes of National competition.  The Start Lights are a portable, F-1 style set of markers that count down to the start of each race – when all the lights go out, the race is underway.
