BRANDON PAASCH TAKES DOUBLE TOP 5 FINISH AT SILVERSTONE NATIONAL IN 2018 HEL PERFORMANCE BRITISH MOTOSTAR CHAMPIONSHIP

After a solid result in the previous round, Brandon Paasch was looking forward to racing at Silverstone National on his Mahindra Moto3 GP bike. With the support of the Microlise Cresswell Racing team, Brandon was confident that they were moving in the right direction to get to the front of the pack in the races. Using the Free Practice rounds to set a fast baseline, he faced his first all-wet Qualifying session of the season. Things didn’t quite go according to plan, but Brandon worked through the rain and set a time to secure P7 for the start of Race 1.

“Another race weekend, another new track to learn, but I was pumped to be at Silverstone where MotoGP races. Well, almost… I used FP1 to learn the track, then I went out in FP2 on a used tire to build confidence for the late part of the races when the tires wouldn’t be so sticky. I matched my time in FP1, so I was confident in my race pace. Unfortunately, Qualifying was a bit of a mess as it was completely wet. I didn’t have my best session, and I ended up P7. So, I knew I had some work to do in the race to stay with the front group.” (Brandon Paasch)

In Race 1, Brandon launched with the front group and managed to run with his teammate for most of the race, but they slowly lost touch with the front three riders. Brandon just missed out on beating his teammate Asher Durham to the checkered flag, for a result of fifth in Race 1. Invigorated by the ability to run with his teammate his first time at Silverstone, Brandon used Warmup on Sunday morning to try a few adjustments for Race 2. At the green flag in Race 2, Brandon put his head down and fought with a group of 5 riders for the first 10 laps, before breaking free and chasing down his teammate again. With 6 laps to go, Brandon made a move on Asher and took over fourth place. Despite running through some backmarkers in the final few laps, Brandon was able to stay in front and secure fourth for Race 2.

“Man, that some good racing! I had a great time running against my teammate Asher, and it felt really good to be able to stay within a half second of the leaders’ lap times. If I can improve my starts, I know I’ll be able to get back on the box. I was really happy to be the top Mahindra in Race 2, beating Asher for the first time in a while. Overall, it was another positive weekend after learning a brand new track. I’m really looking forward to Oulton, as I think it’s a track where we can really do some damage!

Thanks to all my sponsors – the whole crew at Microlise Cresswell Racing for setting up a fast bike, and to Spidi and Arai for keeping me safe. Couldn’t do this without Electronic Concepts LLC, Evolve GT, luxeStar VIP, DRH, VNM Sport, CCC Manhattan, Eric, Mom, Paulie, Andy, and all my fans at home and online. (Brandon Paasch)
